FX Greenlights Animated Comedy Pilot Produced By Danny McBride

EXCLUSIVE: FX is continuing its efforts to expand its animated footprint with a pilot order to animated comedy Chosen, from Danny McBride and his Rough Pictures partners Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. Chosen was written by from up-and-coming scribe Grant Dekernion, former writer’s assistant on McBride, Hill and Green’s HBO series Eastbound & Down. Dekernion will also voice the lead character in the comedy, about a rapper who comes out of the joint with a new message and new skills—which he will use in his quest for redemption and domination. Dekernion, McBride, Hill and Green executive produce with Floyd County Prods, the animation house behind FX’s Archer, for FX Prods. This is not the first animated collaboration for Dekernion, McBride, Hill, Green and FX. Earlier this year, the cable network put in development an animated comedy about a man out of prison created by Dekernion and Matt Maiellaro, which also had McBride, Hill Green attached as executive producers.

FX has been looking to build on the success of Archer, recently renewed for a fourth season, with another animated comedy. Its followup effort, Unsupervised, is wrapping its season-long run. Dekernion is repped by 3 Arts and attorney Lev Ginsburg; Rough House is with CAA.
