It seems the only person who isn't supportive of Lisbon's CBI team is CBI director Gale Bertram. He's been the director since the beginning of Season 3 and has always been a bit pushy and secretive. More than anything, he seems to have an obvious dislike of Patrick Jane, despite his ability to solve cases. In the public eye, Gale Bertram is the perfect director. He works well with the media and knows how to use politics to get what he wants.
Only when Bertram thinks no one is really watching does he let his hatred of Jane show. This became a bit more obvious after Jane set him up because he was one of LaRoche's suspects. Even though Craig O'Laughlin ended up being tied to Red John, it didn't exactly prove Bertram's innocence. This secret mission didn't set well with him at all.
Since Lisbon worked alongside Jane on this mission, Bertram suspended her and her team. Her team members have their jobs back, but not Lisbon. Jane and Lisbon work well together. After proving his innocence in court, Jane has been reinstated. Instead of working those who know him best, Bertram assigned him to a new team.
It seems as if Bertram is working hard to break up the team members. By forcing them apart, he hopes they won't share information. They'll also be too busy with new teams to actually focus on anything Jane wants or Red John. The object is to keep everyone apart who may know anything about Red John. So what exactly does Gale Bertram know? Is he an informant of Red John?
Now with Jane's only two suspects dead, one by his own hand, the question remains is Red John still out there? Jane doesn't believe so. For Bertram to still be acting suspicious, we can only believe in Jane's instinct. Red John isn't dead yet. Now the old team is secretly working together under Jane's supervision. No type of reprimands are going to keep them from finding out who's hiding their real agenda. Could it be Bertram? He's involved in something that's not exactly legal.
Season 4 is likely to be a lengthy secret investigation to discover who Red John is and who is working for him, including those in the CBI. We will all be along for the ride and try to put the clues together as we go. Do you think you can discover Bertram's secret before Jane?
