Last month, news broke that Coldplay drummer Will Champion would be joining the cast of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones." Champion will appear during Season 3 in a role that remains shrouded in mystery. One thing is for certain: Champion will play a character who is also a drummer. Snow Patrol lead singer Gary Lightbody also scored a cameo appearance on "Thrones."
Of course, "Game of Thrones" is far from the first TV show that's actively sought out musicians to round out the cast. From animated shows to sitcoms, these fan-favorite shows all featured musicians-turned-actors.
Over the course of its long history, "The Simpsons" has featured the vocal talents of many famous musicians. Most of the time, the musicians play themselves, as was the case with Elvis Costello, Ringo Starr, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, and Brian Setzer. However, there are instances where musicians come on the show and play actual characters.
Michael Jackson played Leon Kompowsky in the episode "Stark Raving Dad," where he was credited as John Jay Smith. Funny enough, musician Kipp Lennon actually provided the singing voice for Leon. The character of Leon, of course, was a crazy guy who thought he was Michael Jackson.
Pop singer (and later actress) Mandy Moore played a character named Tabitha Vixx in the episode "Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play." Vixx was a pop star who was also married to a baseball player on the show.
