'Game of Thrones' Season 3 Casting Rumors

After a long wait, many "Game of Thrones" fans are finding that the current season of the show is flying by all too quickly. There is good news, however. Casting for the show's third season has allegedly begun.

According to the fan site Winteriscoming.net, casting began on May 2. No official announcements have yet been made, but the speculation has already begun.

The first name brought up in the post is Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju, who fans are assuming will be up for the part of Tormund Giantsbane. If you caught the remake of "The Thing" in theaters last year, you might remember him as Jonas.

According to show's hard-core fan Jonas Jakobsen's Twitter feed, there is another Scandinavian actor who might in the running for the third season of "Game of Thrones." It reports Iceland-born actor "Gudmundur Thorvaldsson has apparently auditioned. I e-mailed him about the role, and he said 'thanks, hoping for the best!'"

Gudmundur Thorvaldsson isn't well-known in the US, though fans of the 2010 miniseries "Any Human Heart" (which aired in the U.S. under the PBS "Masterpiece" banner) may remember the actor as the SPK Swiss contact from the show's final episode.

A role that has yet to be cast is Shireen Baratheon. The producers are looking for a girl of about 11, and have reportedly already seen hundreds of potential candidates during an April casting session in London. Finding the perfect child will prove hard, but the show has a stellar track record when it comes to casting the younger roles. Shireen Baratheon is the daughter of Stannis Baratheon and his only child. Her mother is Lady Selyse Florent.

The final casting rumor brought up by Winteriscoming.net involves searching for the right actor to play Daario Naharis. The character is a mercenary captain from the harbor city of Tyrosh. One of his most distinguishing characteristics is his facial hair; his beard cut in three prongs, all dyed blue, while the tips of his mustache are painted in gold. The rumors say that actors of any ethnicity are being considered, with the exception of Caucasian.

No audition or casting rumors have named names as of yet. However, Oded Fehr and Santiago Cabrera have both been floated as possibilities by fans of the books. Another possibility fans have suggested is bringing back Jason Momoa and changing his appearance slightly with prosthetics. Fans who have read the books understand why such a move would be clever (and gut-twisting for Dany).

One thing's for sure: Fans still have months of "Game of Thrones" casting news and rumors to look forward to!
