Given the wide variety of TV shows on the air, it's not surprising that similar themes seem to pop up on different series. There are the consummate single girls, the random person struggling with alien encounters, and the iconic television dads. Some characters might benefit from meeting their counterparts from other programs. Here are a few that should definitely meet.
Jessica Day from "New Girl" and Chloe from "Don't Trust the B- in Apt 23"
They're two of TV's hottest single girls, but they couldn't be less alike. "New Girl's" Jess is the quirky and adorkable girl next door who's most evil plot has been trying to get her folks back together on Thanksgiving day by employing the "Parent Trap" technique. Chloe, aka "The B- in Apt 23," is known to go to extremes -- like faking a relationship with a guy for a year just to break the guys heart. Chloe's current roommate and sort of BFF, June, is already hip to her tricks and doesn't seem to be easily influenced and the ever-earnest Jess could use a little edge. So maybe it's time for "The B" to mentor a "New Girl."
The Weavers from "The Neighbors" and Tom Mason from "Falling Skies"
Not since the Coneheads moved from France has a more seemingly benign gaggle of extraterrestrials moved into the suburbs than the athletically named group on "The Neighbors." But it's time for Debbie and Marty Weaver to ensure that the potentially dangerous element next door be dealt with for good. All they need to do is welcome a crossover from "Falling Skies'" resident history professor turned alien fighter Tom Mason. He can take out Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Dick Butkus on his quest to rid the Earth of skitters.
The Dads on "Guys with Kids" and Zeek Braverman from "Parenthood"
Not only does it seem like the fathers on "Guys with Kids" weren't raised by the brightest parents, but it appears that they never even watched an episode of "The Cosby Show
." TV's latest slate of bumbling baby daddies are struggling to figure out the rules of daddydom in the modern world. But what the "Guys with Kids" really need is a visit from Zeek Braverman from "Parenthood." Sure, he's not the most emotionally effusive father. But he and his wife, Camille, did a solid job raising Adam, Sarah, Crosby, and Julia with his no-nonsense parenting style.
Scarlett O'Connor from "Nashville" and Reba MacKenzie from "Malibu Country"
While Rayna Jaymes and Juliette Barnes duke it out for the top spot on the charts on "Nashville," Scarlett O'Connor has quietly been transitioning from poet to songwriter. But the Bluebird Cafe's favorite songbird has been struggling with choosing a life-changing career with her creative partner Gunnary Scott over her romance with Avery Barkley. Scarlett should take a page from Reba MacKenzie's playbook on "Malibu Country." She had been an aspiring singer-songwriter herself, but she threw it all away from her husband. Now she's rebuilding her life after he cheated on her. If Scarlett's not careful and chooses to go back to Avery, she could suffer the same fate.
Tessa Altman from "Suburgatory" and Mac McHale from "The Newsroom"
Last summer Chatswin's hippest daughter, Tessa Altman, from "Suburgatory" interned at the Village Voice. So what should she do next? Since she's always smarter than everyone else in the room and has a great sense of humor, a gig with Liz Lemmon at "TGS" would make the most sense. But since "30 Rock" is going off the air, that's a dead-end job at best. Maybe's it's time for Tessa to explore her inner Lois Lane a bit deeper and become a gopher for the much more intense Mac McHale on "The Newsroom."
