This week on "Glee," the Valentine's Day episode gave new hope to "Kurtofsky" fans. Although Kurt (Chris Colfer) had to turn Karofsky (Max Adler) down this week, it's very likely that the show will revisit the possibility.
The Case for "Kurtofsky"
Fans of Max Alder will undoubtedly root for "Kurtofsky" to seal the deal, and part of me would be intrigued by this match.
While Klaine enjoys are rabid fan following, even the most die-hard fans have to admit that this relationship could use a shake-up. We're glad that this couple is so happy, but we know that they are teenagers. It would be unrealistic for them not to go through the drama that the other "Glee" couples face.
In Season 2, most gleeks would not have supported a Kurtofsky match. However, Karofsky seems to have genuinely reformed. He realized that his bullying was a symptom of his own self-hatred and conflicting feelings about his sexual orientation. On Valentine's Day, he took a huge step by being being vulnerable and putting his heart on the line.
Kurt has been nothing but respectful towards Karofsky. He could have sought revenge on his former bully by outing him, but instead he chose to forgive. Understandably, Kurt had to turn him down because he was dating Blaine (Darren Criss), but would he have responded differently if he had been single? We did see a bit of chemistry between Kurt and Karofsky at Scandals.
Should Karofsky and Sebastian Date?
While there's a strong argument for a "Kurtofsky" match, I'd also be interested to see the writers explore the possibility of Karofsky and Sebastian (Grant Gustin).
One reason is the "pay it forward" idea. Kurt helped make Karofsky a better man by extending forgiveness and by showing him the importance of self-acceptance. He inspired Karofsky to reform from his bullying ways.
As we've seen, Sebastian is a bit of a villain! And as a former bully, Karofsky is in a unique position to smack some perspective into him and to show him the importance of respecting others. Could Karofsky redeem Sebastian the way Kurt redeemed Karofsky?
In turn, there's also a lot that Karofsky could learn from Sebastian. Like Sebastian, Karofsky is a guy's guy and a jock who just happens to be gay. Karofsky's more of a Burt (Mike O'Malley) than a Kurt. Sebastian could show him that sports, singing, and being openly gay are not mutually exclusive.
While we're at it, why not transfer Karofsky to Dalton? From the looks of this week's episode, he's in danger of being outed by one of his classmates (Aaron Hill, Beaver from "Greek")!
Why not send him to a school where he will be accepted for who he is and where he'll be able to come to terms with his sexuality in his own time? Besides, Karofsky the Warbler does have a nice ring to it.
Should Karofsky be with Kurt or Sebastian?
