'Glee's' Amber Riley Dropped Two Dress Sizes: How Did She Do It?

Getty ImagesIf you've seen photos of Glee's Amber Riley at the NAACP Image Awards on Feb. 17, you probably noticed that the 26-year-old actress looked a bit different.

"I dropped two dress sizes!" she told People, about her new, slimmer figure.

But how exactly did she do it? Riley credits the weight loss with a new diet and exercise plan. She cut out fast foods and "decided I was going to make a change and eat healthier."

The actress has been sticking with her regimen since last July, after she was forced to see a doctor due to chronic stomach pains.

The seven-month health kick has obviously paid off. Riley says the costume department on set has had to tailor a lot of her pants and dresses to accommodate her slimmer frame. They've also had to buy "a lot of new clothes for me."

Even before losing weight, the Los Angeles-born actress considered herself a confident woman. "I've always been comfortable with my size," says Riley. "I just decided it was time to get healthy."

So many haters complaining that she shouldn't try to lose weight because it's part of who she is. Obesity is a disease that causes many health problems. Good for her for getting healthy.

Willingly stuffing your face with big macs is not a disease.

I love her no matter what size she is. She's so pretty. Proves confidence counts more than a number on the scale or on an article of clothes.

Good for her! She easily could have taken the Jennifer Hudson/Valerie Bertenelli way out and endorse a program but she did what worked for her, privately. And she's not a stick! Some people are just not meant to be size 2. And for all the idiots that are saying the weight loss will affect her character, you obviously don't even watch Glee if all you think she plays is the fat black girl. Mercedes will always be Mercedes. Now she's just healthier!

Congrads! She did it the sensible way. Hope she keeps up the good work. I think if everyone lost weight by gradual changes, we wouldn't have so many obese people now.

You are thinking exactly right. Binge diets, purging & things like that are only temporary. Nearly EVERYONE gains the weight back. The key is eating healthy, portion size & exercise. I am betting that the cast members of Glee get quite a bit of exercise, there is a reason there aren't too many overweight dancers. Amber is being sensible about her health & that is what is most important. Her voice is amazing & I hope that she has a very long, very successful career & a very long, very healthy life.

I clicked on this article to comment on "two dress sizes in 7 months...." which seems like a VERY slow & minimal weight loss for someone of her size. However, it does not look like she dropped only 2 sizes. I think she's lost more than she's getting credit for...and kudos to her.

People who lose weight slowly tend to keep the weight off longer & don't jeopardize their overall health as much. The hope is that they will not only lose the weight, but learn healthier eating habits to maintain the weight loss. Programs like JennyC/Nutrisystems/Weight Watchers usually only work for as long as you stay on the program & buy THEIR food. Those programs don't teach a person how to cook healthy meals using ingredients in their own kitchens. THAT is what helps people stay healthy over the course of their lives.

JeffB it is not healthy to lose weight quickly and can be dangerous. Part of learning to eat right and getting healthy involves changing the habits of a lifetime. If you go for the faswt fix you are more likely to fail and then gain all the weight back plus more!

Confidence and talent are sexy, so I had no issue with her before, but she certainly looks like she extended her life by about 15 years. Good for her.

Incidentally, the difference between those pics looks more like four dress sizes, but I'm no expert.

She looks amazing! And he people, don't be hating on those that have had surgery! I had it almost 10 years ago and have maintained my 170 pound weight loss. It was not easy and I hate when people assume it is. You MUST learn to change your eating habits and your relationship with food. Good for her getting healthy. I am proud of anyone who makes the decision to lose weight and get fit!
