Sometimes, good people need to do bad things. Most of the time, it's a case of "desperate times call for desperate measures." But sadly, even the most well-intentioned person can be completely corrupted when they have a passing brush with evil. From gritty crime dramas to late-night cult hits, these once-good TV characters eventually became downright evil, much to the fascination of TV fans.
Walter White, "Breaking Bad"Arguably the greatest example of a good man gone bad is Walter White. Formerly a mild-manner high school teacher, he turns to crime for noble reasons and becomes utterly corrupt as a result. Walter's journey has been described as a man turning from Mr. Chips into Scarface.
While he started cooking meth as a way to ensure that his pregnant wife and disabled son would be financially secure after his death, Walt slowly turned from kind-hearted father into a ruthless tyrant and killer. He first used his "Heisenberg" persona as a way to keep his family life separate from his drug life. Over five seasons, however, Walt has lost touch with "Walter" and become fully immersed in his "Heisenberg" personality. He is no longer motivated by the need to care for his family: He cooks meth because he loves feeling powerful.
Light Yagami, "Death Note"
This Japanese series became a cult hit when it aired on late-night TV in the U.S. and gained even more fans when the series became available on Hulu. The series revolves around a high school student, Light, who comes into possession of a magic book that can kill any person whose name is written in its pages.
While Light initially uses the notebook to kill criminals, he eventually uses the book to kill law enforcement officials and anyone else who gets in the way of his master plan to rid the world of crime. Eventually, he becomes drunk with power and starts to believe that he is a god. But even after he becomes objectively evil, Light still believes that what he is doing is good.
Sam Winchester, "Supernatural"
The Winchester brothers are some of the most beloved characters on The CW, and Sam is arguably the most beloved of the two brothers. Sam is a tortured soul: He starts drinking the blood of demons in order to have the strength to save his brother. But while his motivations are pure, ingesting such a purely evil substance begins to turn him into a monstrous, evil being who betrays the very brother he wanted to protect.
