Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) was the clear focus of the "Grimm" episode "The Other Side." That's a good thing, because each of the story arcs for the secondary characters has been interesting, adding new layers to the overall story. Renard's story is no exception, especially now that he may be about to change from a mysterious character, who may be good or may be bad, to an utterly creepy weirdo.
The police department captain/Hexenbiest/prince
Ever since Renard took Adalind's (Claire Coffee) potion to become pure of heart, he's been having a few new problems to contend with. He seems to want to help Nick (David Giuntoli) and Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch), but being forced to wake Sleeping Beauty (Juliette) from her slumber has given him much more than he bargained for.
We learn in this episode how Renard can be both a creature and a prince. He was the result of an affair with a Hexenbiest. Poor Renard is never going to catch a break with a blood line like that. His Hexenbiest side seems to be the side he has tried to keep under wraps. He would much rather be known as a prince in his family circle. But then he's also a captain of a police department, which throws another wrench into the works.
Renard takes some alone time with Juliette
Renard offers Juliette a ride home from a function when Nick gets called away. Juliette is already confused enough after having visioned Renard while Nick was kissing her. With no memories of Nick, she may assume that she was having some sort of torrid affair with Nick's boss. She must think she's the creepy one!
Nope, Renard turns the episode into a creep-fest by stalking Juliette. He goes so far as to break into Nick and Juliette's house, hoping to spy on her taking a shower. He even breaks the glass on a framed picture of the couple, then puts it back on the dresser in their bedroom!
Renard meets Monroe
This is where the episode gets really interesting. Renard at least acknowledges that he is becoming a weirdo stalker and goes to Rosalee's (Bree Turner) shop for a potion to put a stop to his behavior. With Rosalee gone, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) is there tending the shop. Unfortunately, all Monroe can offer is something to help with a few physical symptoms. There's nothing available that can break the hold Juliette now has on his heart unless he brings Juliette along!
Of course, he can't do that unless he figures out a way to trick her into it, but that would also mean that Monroe and Nick would learn exactly who Juliette's mysterious prince is. Renard doesn't even know that Nick and Monroe are connected, so he would have no idea what he was getting himself into if he did such a thing!
The Renard story arc is becoming more exciting with each episode. Is the gang going to learn the truth about Renard? How will Renard react if that happens? Will he side with his family who has very little respect for him because of his half-Hexenbiest blood, or will he become an ally to the "good guys" -- Nick, Hank (Russell Hornsby), Monroe, and Rosalee?
