Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), on "Grimm," is one of the best characters ever created. The thing that makes him so special is that he is just a regular guy. He is a regular guy who used to do very bad things. It has never been made clear, but he may even have killed people. These days, he spends his time eating healthfully, fixing clocks, and occasionally helping Nick (David Giuntoli) to catch evil creatures.
Monroe's ability to talk about the evil creature underworld in real world terms makes for some highly entertaining and amusing quotes. He has had a slew of funny and entertaining quotes over the course of Season 1.
"Don't you dare say heel." -- "Beeware"
Monroe is not too fond of dog jokes, being a Blutbad, or wolf-like creature.
"Am I too late? Oh no, I can't be too late, you're still alive. That's a good thing." -- "Happily Ever Aftermath"
Monroe can have a tendency to take life and death issues lightly. He may get upset for a few moments about the loss of someone he cares about, such as Larry in "Big Feet," but he moves on easily within a few minutes.
"How long have you been at this? You seem kinda new." -- "Pilot"
Monroe said this to Nick not long after they first met. Nick's naivete when it came to creatures was surprising to Monroe, who previously thought all Grimms were fearsome creature hunters who chopped off creature's heads without a second thought.
"So we're just kind of jumping out of the old airplane without a parachute here, huh?" -- "Woman in Black"
Many of the things that go on around Nick and Monroe are beyond imagination. When Nick acts rashly, Monroe feels it's necessary to point out the error of Nick's ways.
"He ate a baby. That's rude." -- "Three Coins in a Fuchsbau"
Monroe proves that he does not seem to know the difference in severity between a gruesome act and cutting in line.
"You're gonna have to dig deep within yourself and like, pull up the history of your ancestors, and I mean all of them, man, to bring it." -- "Last Grimm Standing"
Monroe does have a knack for teaching Nick valuable lessons. When he knows that Nick may be in grave danger, he is sure to convey just how much danger Nick is facing, and what he will need to do to survive.
"These guys, they carry grudges to the grave. And usually it's your grave." -- "Game Ogre"
Monroe explains succinctly why nobody should ever cross an ogre.
"Last time I protected someone for you, it was not a pleasant experience. How is that guy, by the way? Were they able to sew his arm back on?" -- "Danse Macabre"
Yes, Monroe pulled a man's arm right out of its socket. At least he seems interested enough in the man's welfare to ask about him.
"No way, dude. I can't be around that guy. He's way too potent. I almost bought him a drink." -- "Lonelyhearts"
Monroe comes in contact with a man who gets what he wants by exuding odors. As a Blutbad, Monroe is particularly susceptible with his acute sense of smell.
"Oh right, her again, Aunt Marie, right? Yeah, I couldn't sleep the last two nights thinking old Aunt Marie was gonna cut off my head and stick it on a lamppost. That's how my great Grandma ended up ... you know." -- "Bears Will Be Bears"
Monroe led a hair-raising life with his family before reforming. Perhaps this is why he thinks of the creature world as normal. It also makes for some hilarious quotes.
