For most of "Grimm," Season 1, Nick (David Giuntoli) and Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) had a great thing going, but then Monroe met Rosalee (Bree Turner). It's your basic "boy meets girl, boy leaves best bud in the wind when he most needs him" type of scenario. But can't he be good friends with Nick at the same time he's in a relationship with Rosalee? Maybe so, but maybe not. Here's a recap of their friendship.
Nick needs Monroe
Nick's unceremonious introduction to the Wesen world in the "Pilot" would have been impossible for Nick to manage without Monroe's help. Without a mother or relative to guide him, especially after the death of Aunt Marie (Kate Burton), Nick would have been totally lost had it not been for his accidental run-in with Monroe. Despite the fact that he initially thought Nick was some sort of "idiot," Monroe reluctantly helped Nick with Wesen cases.
Monroe becomes lonely
After helping Nick for awhile, Monroe began to realize he didn't have to be alone all the time. In the Season 1 episode "Organ Grinder," Monroe proved how much he longed for some sort of companionship by trying to have a normal "bro" discussion with Nick over dinner. He was immensely disappointed when Nick wanted to focus only on work.
Monroe meets Rosalee
Rosalee was introduced in the Season 1 episode "Island of Dreams." Monroe and Rosalee immediately took a liking to each other and have grown closer ever since. Ever since that time, Monroe has not seemed to care much about being a closer friend with Nick. They are still friends, but now Monroe would much rather be in the company of Rosalee than Nick.
Nick needs lot's of potions
Once Adalind (Claire Coffee) began messing with all of the people in Nick's life with her evil potions, Nick has been needing cures in the form of other potions. As the owner of a potion shop, who is knowledgeable in such things, Rosalee has everything Nick needs. With Monroe and Rosalee spending much of their time together, Nick and Monroe are more likely to see each other only when Nick is dealing with Rosalee.
Juliette only remembers Monroe
Ironically, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) has been speaking with Monroe more than Nick has spoken with either of them in Season 2. Ever since Juliette lost all of her memories of Nick, Juliette has been calling on Monroe to help her remember just who this strange man she lives with, and supposedly used to love, really is.
Can Monroe be a consultant?
So, perhaps the way to get Monroe and Nick to hang out more often is if they get to work together more often. If Monroe were to work with Nick in another way, by being a consultant to the police department for example, maybe we would get to see another spark of humorous "bromance" between the two friends.
"Grimm" returns to Fridays with the episode "The Good Shepherd," on Friday, 9/28 at 9PM ET on NBC.
