Will the New Guardian Angel on ‘Drop Dead Diva’ Fit In?

A lot has changed for the spirit of Deb Dobkins, which inhabits Jane Bingum, as Season 4 of "Drop Dead Diva" begins. Not the least of which is the introduction of her new guardian angel, Luke Daniels. In a recent conference call actor Carter MacIntyre talks about being the new spirit guide in town.

Carter MacIntyre Explains How Luke Daniels Differs from Fred on 'Drop Dead Diva.'

MacIntyre talked about how his character is different than that of Fred. MacIntyre remarked, "They're almost polar opposites. Fred was naïve and overwhelmed at times by the ways of earth and what it takes to be a human. Whereas Luke jumps ahead full force and goes after what he wants, isn't afraid to speak his mind, has a lot of confidence and just really enjoys everything that life has to offer."

As a result, Luke also has a very different relationship with Jane. While her former guardian angel was a more passive buddy, Luke is far more aggressive and rubs the headstrong Jane (Brooke Elliott) the wrong way.

According to MacIntyre, that's going to lead to some friction as the season wears on. He revealed, "There's going to be some conflict there between Jane and Luke with how they want her to proceed going forward with her life. And there's some tension there with Jane because Luke is always there, and he's very capable. So he's always going to figure out a way, unless she can outsmart him, to be there watching over her and pushing his own agenda with her."

Luke Daniels Will Have Interesting Relationships With All of the Characters on 'Drop Dead Diva.'

MacIntyre also promised that interesting relationships will evolve between Luke and other members of the ensemble. There'll be a bit of power struggle between his character and the firm's partners, and he'll have a chance to interact more with Stacy, but it's safe too assume not on the romantic level that she shared with Fred.

New to the established cast, MacIntyre is enjoying working with the ensemble, he acknowledged that Luke will be "finding these different relationships with the other characters in the office as he tries to navigate all these characters, which he probably underestimated the will and the strength of all these other characters. He's going to have to deal with, so that's been fun, as well."

He also shared that Jane's assistant Teri, played by Margaret Cho, might have finally met her match. "They're going to become like this dynamic duo towards the end of the season, and that's a lot of fun."

Watch "Drop Dead Diva" on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. Central on Lifetime.
