Whether you're new to the show or a devoted fan, who just needs a refresher on what happened in the Season 2 finale, it's time to get caught up on "Hawaii Five-0" before the show returns on Sept. 24.
The Season 2 finale episode "Ua Hala" ("death in the family" in Hawaiian) saw the Five-0 team investigating the scene where Chief Fryer was murdered. Dr. Max Bergman (played by Masi Oka of "Heroes" fame) got shot by the same gunslinger who shot the chief.
The shooter then stole a police car, drove it to the station, and rigged a huge explosion. Meanwhile, Max's description of the shooter allows the Five-0 to make a definitive ID. There's just one problem; the shooter is identified as Teresa Chaver, a woman who has supposedly been dead for five years.
Baffled by this revelation, the team struggled to get more information. However, Kono decided to look for the injured shooter at local medical centers. Finally tracking the shooter down at a veterinary clinic, Kono shoots Chaver through the chest, killing her.
But Chaver's death is just the beginning of the action. It's revealed that the real mastermind behind the Fryer shooting was corrupt cop Frank Delano. The devious Delano blackmails Chin Ho in order to get released from prison. Raising the stakes even further, Delano forces Chin Ho to choose between saving his wife, Malia, or his fellow Five-0 associate, Kono.
When Chin Ho arrives at Malia's location, she is near death after being shot in the chest. Elsewhere, a bound and gagged Kono has been thrown into the ocean, and her fate will be revealed in the Season 3 premiere episode "La O Na Makuahine" ("Mother's Day). The title of the Season 3 premiere also references a character being introduced this season: Christine Lahti has been tapped to play McGarrett's mother, recently revealed to still be alive. Ed Asner and Ving Rhames will also appear later in Season 3.
