"Homeland" episode "The Clearing" opens with Brody going for a run in a wooded park. In a clearing in the park, Brody meets with Roya while wearing a wire. Brody presses Roya for more information about the Gettysburg incident. She clams up but does tell Brody that she has someone she wants Brody to meet with. She's light on the details, but she tells Brody "We are almost there," regarding Abu Nazir's plan.
Later, while driving in a car together, Jess confronts Brody about Mike's revelation from the last episode. She asks Brody if he killed Tom Walker, and he says that he played a part in his death, adding that Tom lost his way.
Elsewhere, Saul is visiting Aileen, who is in solitary confinement. Compared to last season, she looks terrible. Her hair is lank and dark, and her face has way more lines on it. She is even losing her eyesight. She agrees to talk to Saul, but only if she can do it upstairs in a room with sunlight.
Saul asks Aileen to identify the man that Roya met with by the fountain in the previous episode. She says she knows the man in the picture and will help, but only if Saul gets her a cell with a view. Saul tries to reason with the warden but meets a great deal of resistance from the power-hungry prison guardian. Eventually, Aileen talks: The man is named Mohammed Al Ghamdi, and he's been in the country for a year. But when the FBI goes to Mohammed's house, they learn Aileen lied. Aileen's true goal was getting something to slit her wrists with.
Meanwhile, Carrie visits Quinn in the hospital. Galvez is still alive but is close to death. Carrie reveals that there were no traces of radioactivity at the tailor's shop, but the size of the hole in the wall could have held enough C4 to level a large building.
As for Dana, she is still feeling distraught over the hit-and-run incident. She even went to the woman's funeral. She wants Finn to tell his parents, and eventually, he agrees. When she asks when, he says "sometime today."
Brody, Jess, Dana, and the Waldens (along with David Estes) head to the mansion of Rex Henning for a fundraising event. Before heading in, Brody calls Carrie and demands to know how his wife knew about Tom Walker. Carrie, in turn, confronts Faber and tells him that the best thing to do for Jess is to stand down and be ready for when they need him most.
Rex tells Brody that the only reason Walden is getting his support is because Rex is looking eight years down the line, when Brody could have his shot to be president. Carrie then calls Brody and tells him to meet her in a clearing behind the stables. They share a passionate kiss in the clearing, but Brody stops her to ask if its a real kiss or a calculated one. She says she doesn't know, and he kisses her again.
"Two minutes with you, and I feel good," he tells her. "How do you pull that off?"
Back at the party, Dana blurts out to Mrs. Walden and Jess that she and Finn killed somebody. While Jess thinks the kids should go public, Mrs. Walden cryptically says she'll take care of it. Jess confronts Brody with Dana's actions, and Brody confronts Walden in turn. "A screwup with a couple of teenagers isn't getting in our way," Walden tells Brody.
Later, Brody prepares to take Dana to the police. Estes sees Brody and Dana leave, and calls Carrie in. Carrie tells Brody that if they go to the police, Walden and Nazir's relationship with Brody may change, and his immunity deal would fall through. Brody is forced to deny Dana's chance to go to the police, and the episode ends.
