Playing later primetime between 9 pm and 10.25 pm, the final episode punched 1.7 million viewers and a 7.2% share, vs. 2.1 million eyeballs for season two last December and 2.8 million for season one in May 2012, per Barb ratings.
The third season bowed Oct. 6 to 2.2 million viewers. The finale was beaten out on Channel 4 itself, Blighty’s second most popular commercial broadcaster, by movie repeats of “Night at the Museum” (1.9 million/8%) and “The Snowman” (1.9 million/9.2%).
“Homeland” faced some stiff timeslot competition, led by ”Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” which drew five million viewers.
That resolution drew praise in Blighty.
“They did it. They actually did. The writers had placed the proverbial gun on the mantelpiece, but even last week I was still doubting whether they would pull the trigger,” crowed Metro News.
In the U.K., “Homeland’s” third outing has never elicited, however, the popular fervor of its rookie season.
Some press is even now hailing a series reboot. “Shock season three ending makes way for an exciting season four,” Metro News proclaimed, based on claims for the series’ rebooted plot potential.
