'House' to End Its Run on Fox at End of Season

"House M.D." is leaving the air at the end of the current season, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon in a joint statement from the network, show bosses and star Hugh Laurie.

"After much deliberation, the producers of 'House M.D.' have decided that this season of the show, the 8th, should be the last. By April this year they will have completed 177 episodes, which is about 175 more than anyone expected back in 2004," executive producers David Shore, Katie Jacobs and Hugh Laurie, also the show's star, said in a joint statement on Wednesday afternoon.

"The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years - but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved," the statement continued.

"The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air," they added, offering a thanks to the viewers and those who have discussed it online.

"Everyone at 'House' will bid farewell to the audience and to each other with more than a few tears, but also with a deep feeling of gratitude for the grand adventure they have been privileged to enjoy for the last eight years," the statement concluded. "If the show lives on somewhere, with somebody, as a fond memory, then that is a precious feat, of which we will always be proud."

There was plenty of speculation about the fate of the show at the recent Television Critics Association Session in Pasadena, Calif., in early January, but at the time, FOX President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly said no decision had been made. On Wednesday, he too released a statement about the show ending its run.

"While it's with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh, David and Katie have made," his statement read. "A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House. For eight seasons, the entire 'House' team has given us - and fans around the world - some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television. They have been creatively tenacious and collaborative throughout this incredible run, and they are amongst the most superior talents in the business. For all the above, we wholeheartedly thank them, and the fans who have supported the show."

It is time. All good things must come to an end before it truly goes down hill. The creators along with the actors should be applauded for realizing that it is time to end the show.

My husband and I both looked forward to watching House. We are saddened to see it come to an end. There are very few shows that cause us to turn on the TV. Looks like we'll be reading more books

Noooooo. The series lost me in the middle of it's run when it became all about the doctor's personal relationships and the mystery illnesses seemed to be an afterthought. It's come back though. Good stuff.

Spot on! The mysterious illnesses and the Sherlockian doctor who could solve them were always the reason for watching. I could not care less who slept with whom on the show.

sad to see this show go. i am a big fan of hugh laurie. he is the hearbeat of the show. and no, its being ended, not cancelled. @crystal, i agree. I can't wait to see what hugh laurie has up his sleeve. another thing to consider is that he has to spend a large amount of time away from his family when he is shooting the show. i'm sure that was definitely a deciding factor. but as they say, its better to fade away than to burnout. thank you

To the people saying it sucked and that's why it's being cancelled did ya'll not read it right? The creators and the main star decided to end it Fox never cancelled it. It's nice to see a show end on it's own merit.

I can only imagine why they are ending a good show that has a devoted audience. Fox as wel as all other stations really are all about propaganda. House makes people think. The staus Quo certainly does not want people thinking. Plus, it is not PC to have an intelligent strong white male star. Above all everything about House is how hard it is to deal with honesty. Obviously, FOX has issues with honesty.

Hopefully they replace it with a singing/talent reality show. It's hard to find one of those these days.....
    • Really Tired  •  3 months ago
I hope they do an actual farewell episode and give the show a proper send off. It would be nice if Lisa Edelstein and Jennifier Morrison can come back for the finale too.

I absolutely love House and all of the cast members ! I am so saddened about this! How I wish it was a publicity ploy and not the close of a very intriguing show. Good Luck to all . I just wish this wasn't so but thanks for all you've done to keep us entertained these last 8 years.

After this show ends, will they replace it with a show called :

Can't say I didn't see it coming. The show has been weak for a couple of seasons, but this year's episodes really blow
