'House MD' Season 8: The Team Moves On

"House" fans remain disgruntled with Season 7's finale and the official end of Dr. Lisa Cuddy, played by Lisa Edelstein. Lisa has just signed a contract for "The Good Wife." Those fans hanging out for a sudden change of heart can put their hopes in the recycle bin and analyze her new character as an attorney in the fall season. Meanwhile, "House" writers are plotting issues that will grab interest and carry them to nominations for Emmys once again.

As Dr. Robert Chase, Jesse Spencer has an excellent opportunity to motivate the series. Why he is taking so long to address the contract is unknown. Dr. Gregory House will need a sounding board for his own personal demons. Cuddy's departure leaves a lot of room for every member of the team to create a memorable niche for fans to store away and treasure when the show ends. Maybe the case of the week will expand to two or three episodes and involve more teamwork and camaraderie outside the hospital. A bit of Chase's previous seminary training will go a long ways to tamping down the guilt issues beyond the control of mere mortals. Guest team member can bring in new medical ideas for a few minutes every episode to capture fan interest.

A whispered hope for more contribution to the team is Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley, played by Olivia Wilde. Her movie career is becoming quite demanding. There is a question on whether or not she will have the time to concentrate on an upgraded role. Spots normally conquered by Cuddy will perhaps be filled with the best of each star in "House."

Wilde is enjoying a variety of movies, scheduled to star in six films over the next couple of years. "Cowboys and Aliens" is a Steven Spielberg film to release in July 2011. Most of us have seen the leads for the film and the combination of Old West and science fiction promise to be an excellent blend. "The Change-Up" with Ryan Reynolds will be her first comedy film, followed quickly by "In Time" with Justin Timberlake, a romantic comedy. Is light comedy a new trend for Wilde and if so, will it expand her role in what appears to be the end of "House" and the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital? Rumor has it that with all the movies she has scheduled, there will not be time or interest to take a commanding lead in the series.
