Hugh Jackman: The Gay Rumors Bug My Wife

Hugh Jackman never seemed to be bothered by rumors claiming he's secretly gay, but the "Les Miserables" star says the constant chatter has finally gotten under his wife's skin.

"Just recently, it bugs her," Hugh, 44, told The Hollywood Reporter of his wife's (Deborra-Lee Furness, 57) frustration with online buzz questioning the validity of the couple's 17-year marriage and her husband's sexuality. "She goes, 'It's big. It's everywhere!'"

Hugh met his now-wife - also an accomplished actress -- on the set of Australia's "Corelli" (a TV drama set in a prison) in 1994, and the actor said he was immediately attracted to her - though he was freshly out of a "difficult relationship" and thought he'd stay single for a while.

"When I met Deb, it was 10 times better than my single life," he said. "She was very beautiful. She was unbelievably fun -- this energy, this spirit -- irrepressible. And she had a confidence in herself. I had a massive crush on her instantly."

Part of his attraction stemmed from their vastly different temperaments.

"She was sort of the opposite of me. I was very 'Even Steven,' and she was thrilling to me," he said. "I was always really attracted to that."

The couple tied the knot in 1996, and Deborra-Lee put her career on hold to be a wife and eventually, the mother to their two adopted children.

However, Hugh hinted she may soon step in front of the camera once again.

"It feels like she needs to get back into it. She needs to act again," he said.
