COLOGNE, Germany — DreamWorks Animation topper Jeffrey Katzenberg will be among the Hollywood royalty making the trip to Barcelona next month for cinema trade show CineEurope, where he will present a sneak peak at Rise of the Guardians.
The animated fantasy title, directed by Peter Ramsey (Monsters vs. Aliens), features the voice talent of Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin and Chris Pine, among others. Paramount will bow Rise of the Guardians Nov. 21 in the U.S.
CineEurope 2012, which will see the industry event set up shop in Barcelona after 15 years in Spain, also will feature preview screenings of Disney/Pixar's Brave and Oliver Stone's stoner crime drama Savages.
This year, CineEurope is adding independent screenings to its program of studio presentations. Among the indie offerings at the event, which runs June 18-21, will be Lionsgate International's Step Up: Revolution in 3D; Michael Haneke's Cannes Film Festival winner Amour, which French distributor Les Films du Losange will screen; and the French drama A Monkey on My Shoulder, starring Juliette Binoche, from MK Distribution. Russian distributors Central Partnership and Karoprokat will also present their slates to CineEurope's audience of European exhibitors.
CineEurope will honor technical innovation in cinema exhibition with its inaugural Digital Innovation Award. Other CineEurope awards include the international distributors of the year prize, which this year will go to Paul Higginson and Todd Huntley of 20th Century Fox International, and the international exhibitors of the year honor, won by Spanish cinema owners Camilo and Jaime Tarrazon of the Catalan Exhibitors Association.
