Jerry O'Connell has been cast as Herman Munster in NBC's upcoming Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane, Deadline reports.
The Piranha star landed the role of the Frankenstein-inspired patriarch whose body is in constant need of repair. Fred Gwynne played the role in the original Munsters sitcom.
The show's pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, features a story line in which Herman searches for a living "donor" to replace his failing heart.
O'Connell will star alongside Eddie Izzard as the quick-witted grandpa and Charity Wakefield as the first family of horror's "plain" cousin Marilyn. Mason Cook will play Herman's werewolf son Eddie. Eddie's vampire mother, Lily, has not yet been cast.

The re-imagining of the 1960s series is set to be much edgier than the original, but will still maintain the core values of the original series.
O'Connell's last television role was on CBS' legal drama The Defenders, which was canceled after one season.
