Jersey City clears 'Jersey Shore' spinoff

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Jersey City taxpayers won't be footing the bill for police assigned to security for the women of "Jersey Shore" and all the attention that comes with them.

New Jersey's second largest city has issued a permit to producers to film a spinoff of the reality series, featuring Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley. Filming is expected to begin later this month in the city's Grove Street Path neighborhood.

Police spokesman Edgar Martinez said Thursday the production company in charge of the show will pay for off-duty police officers to provide security and will pay for any additional officers if they are needed. In addition, he said, the production crew won't be taking parking spots from residents but will use pay lots.

Nearby Hoboken last week denied the show a permit to film, citing safety and quality of life concerns for residents of the city along the Hudson River.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy said he believes the show is an opportunity to promote the city.

I've never watched the show because because the entire cast has the IQ of a banana

I hope they stay out of O'Connell's and Komegashi Too. No need to lose my appetite at either of my favorite places when I go home.

I'm not much of a bar-goer (Alcohol and arthritis meds don't mix well). As long as they stay out of Moloney's butcher shop and my synagogue (Congregation Sons of Israel, on Cottage Street), I probably won't ave to deal with them

I just hope they don't find out that there's a house for sale on my block

Hey I know where that is! It's not even two miles from where I grew up on Brunswick St; we were between Montgomery and York. Nice structure! I live by the Heights part time now. My family is up there but I work out of state.

Oh NO! ANOTHER show that I will avoid like a social disease. The residents of the Garden State must be SO proud having "ladies" of this standing represent them. Standing? reclining? whatever.

Aren't NJ residents sick of being pictured as ignorant and classless on national TV?

no, we haven't. That show depicts a bunch of New Yorkers, acting up at the Jersey Shore, hence the title "Jersey Shore". as a New Jerseyan I in no way feel that this show depicts me or anyone that I know or have known. Let the production go on, if the public doesn't like it, it'll go away.
Everyone should be able to work, as long as they are not endangering the public safety, let 'em work!
Don't like the show? Neither do I, but I'll NEVER deny a group of people their RIGHT to work based on my personal feelings towards the TV show.
There are about 100 networks now, compared to the 3 or 4 networks that existed when i was a kid.
I DON"T WATCH OR APPROVE OF I SEE EVERYTHING ON TV, but, I WOULDN'T STAND IN THE WAY OF THOSE WHO PRODUCE SHOWS TO WHICH I OBJECT.
This IS America, after all, isn't it?

Snookie is latino. She was adopted from Ecuador. I have no clue why she is so ashamed of her heritage to behave this way.

Spinnoff? It's like stepping on dog poop.. the crap spreads everywhere. Isn't there enough dumb orange people on the tube?

I don't blame Hoboken for being concerned about safety. Snooki's herpes are probably air-borne at this point.

snookie gets so many yeast infections, she could open up her own bread shop.

Oh, good...........more new programming for the trashy, low IQ youth of America. I guess it's a good thing, since they have no idea what else to do with themselves.

What is the lesson here? "Congrats children, striving to be the lowest common denominator really DOES pay off." No wonder other countries laugh at Americans.
