    Kathy Bates Joins American Horror Story as Jessica Lange's Frenemy

    Kathy Bates has signed on to join American Horror Story for its upcoming third season, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

    As first reported by TVLine, Bates will play the best friend of Jessica Lange's new character, who eventually becomes her enemy. Sounds like this will  be a battle for the ages!

    It is not yet known who Lange is playing this time around. She has appeared in both seasons of Ryan Murphy's horror series and won an Emmy, a Golden Globe award and a Screen Actors Guild award for her work in Season 1. Also returning for Season 3 are Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Taissa Farmiga and Frances Conroy.

    Bates, an Oscar winner for the thriller Misery, most recently starred on the NBC legal drama Harry's Law, and recurred on The Office.
