Kristen Stewart Pre-Scandal: It's Impossible for Me to Be "Fake"

Kristen Stewart can't help but keep it real.

At Comic-Con in San Diego July 12 and 13 -- days before she and director Rupert Sanders hooked up in Los Angeles -- the 22-year-old actress opined to Entertainment Weekly about her tricky public image.

    PHOTOS: Her shocking betrayal

With Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2 costars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson standing by, Stewart acknowledged her sometimes awkward appearances on red carpets and in media interviews. "I've never been able to fully form this thing, this persona, that some people are so f---ing good at," the superstar said. "That's an art, I know a lot of actors [who can do that]."

Gesturing to boyfriend Pattinson, 26, and Lautner, 18, she quipped, "You guys aren't them."

"Did you just point to us?" Pattinson is quoted as asking.

"Yes, and thank God!" Stewart said. "I don't like people like that."

Continued the actress, caught days in later in shocking photos with married Sanders, 41: "I don't want anyone leaving and saying, 'God, that girl is so fake.' . . . I'd rather just be me."

These days, Stewart remains in hiding after news broke of her fling -- and her Twilight pals are shocked by her fling, sources told Us Weekly.

"No one can believe how totally self-destructive this was," a source says.

Adds another pal: "She just can't believe she f--ked all this up and ruined everything."
