Kristin Cavallari Sets The Record Straight About Jay Cutler's 'Romantic' Proposal; Did He Mail The Ring?

The press was set abuzz this week after Kristin Cavallari revealed fiancé Jay Cutler proposed via text message and sent her ring to her by mail.

Sports reporters immediately had a field day with the info, mocking the Chicago Bears quarterback's apparent laziness and lack of romance, so Kristin called into Access Hollywood Live on Friday to defend her man and set the record straight about their love story.

"And then we broke up for literally like three weeks... before I did 'Dancing with the Stars,'" she continued, referencing her brief stint as a competitor on Season 13 of the ABC reality show. "When we decided that we wanted to be engaged again, we weren't going see each other for months."

Bottom line? Jay was every bit the gentleman when it came to his initial proposal, then the couple hit a brief rough patch.

After quickly reuniting, the pair decided to declare their engagement back on during a conversation via text message (the couple was not going to see each other in person for a bit due to scheduling conflicts).

"So he did send me the ring in the mail, but it was only because I didn't want to wait too long to put my ring on," she explained.

Kristin said she was shocked by the razzing Jay has been subjected to this week over the story.

"He is [getting hammered]!" she said, explaining why she felt compelled to defend her beau. "I feel like sports writers are worse than tabloids - it's kind of crazy. They're not going to give him a break on this!

"He's a really great guy - he just gets a bad rap here and there," she added. "People are making it a big deal when it's really not at all."
