'L Word' Actress Leisha Hailey Tweets She Was Kicked Off Southwest Airlines Flight After Kissing Girlfriend

Southwest Airlines Sparks Outcry After Kicking 'L Word' Actress Off Flight for Kissing Girlfriend

The L Word actress Leisha Hailey says she was kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight after kissing her girlfriend.

In a series of tweets Monday, Hailey wrote that she and fashion designer Nina Garduno, who have been together since 2006, "were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue."

"I have been discriminated against by @SouthwestAir," she tweeted. "Flt. attendant said that it was a 'family' airline and kissing was not ok."

"This is an outrage," she added. "I demand a public apology by @SouthwestAir and a refund. Hate is not a family value. I will never fly this airline."

She continued: "We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue. @SouthwestAir endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable."

STORY: Kevin Smith Drops 65 Lbs After Airline Incident

The Uh Huh Her twitter feed -- of which Hailey, also a musician, is a member -- also posted a series of tweets about the incident. One noted that the couple "joined the ranks" of Kevin Smith and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, both of whom were previously kicked off SWA flights. In February 2010, Smith claimed he was kicked off for being too large to fit in a single seat, while Armstrong earlier this month tweeted that he was escorted off the aircraft for wearing sagging pants.

"We didn't know intolerance and discrimination for slouchy pants, being overweight or being gay was part of your family values," an Uh Huh Her tweet read.

Meanwhile, a SWA rep did reach out to Hailey via Uh Huh Her's Twitter account.

"I'm so sorry!" read a tweet from SWA's account. "Can you please follow/DM [direct message] me more details so we can get to the bottom of this? Thanks!"

SWA later tweeted this statement, which did not mention Hailey by name: "Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender. The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight. We regret any circumstance where a passenger does not have a positive experience on Southwest and we are ready to work directly with the passengers involved to offer our heartfelt apologies for falling short of their expectations."

wow some of these posts have just proven how primitive we still are as a society. If you want to quote GOD's Law...please refer to the parts where it says Love Thy Neighbor and Do not Judge for they will be judged by God and refrain from the parts from the war mongering polygamist side known as the Old Testament. Calling Homosexuals "Abominations"? Remember that Jesus befriended these so called Abominations of Society and told a criminal next to him when he was being crucified, he will recieve eternal life...hmmmm. But on the point of this being called Indecent Exposure I dont see how that will come to play but if it was making out, dude its cool to show affections of love but please just know the time and place this goes for all couples usually in places of businesses. Thats just a suggestion I say meaning no disrespect but who you love is your business, Love is a scribbled drawing not a Mattise painting so if whatever makes you happy and your partner happy then dont let something like this discourage you from your preferences

All of you that want to talk about how she was "shoving her tongue in her girl friends mouth" the article never said that, it said a kiss- could be a peck on the cheek or lips. And I can assure you I have been on SWA flights where I have seen heterosexual people doing a lot worse than that and they were not reprimanded for that behavior so yes it is a gay issue. And not ALL gay people are sex starved exhibitionists. Oh and for the record straight people have been shoving your lifestyle down peoples throat for years!!!

I don't see the need to shove my tongue down my wife's mouth in front of everyone in a plane, there are kids there too u know. Good for them, this gay thing is getting out of hand and they feel the rest of the normal world has to watch and accept them,..they both should be charged with indecent exposure.

And once again, the LGBT community feels someone is "homophobic" because they have something to say about you not keeping your tongues in your mouth for a flight. Gay's always feel the need to make a spectacle out of their lifestyle. Give it a rest already. Do you even the definition of phobia? What an over used label they seem to place on everyone. Yet you don't want anyone labeling your insecure behinds. Shut up!

I will fly Southwest more often. Way to go SWA. That girl is just a complainer who wants to divert attention from her poor choices and behavior.

Who cares? I'm sure there is more to the story. Some people like to purposefully make others uncomfortable, I'm guessing this woman has an agenda like most gays.

Moreso, some people will never be comfortable with you no matter how hard you try to indoctrinate children and force your sexuality on others.

Finally, overt public display of affection is uncomfortable no matter who does it. Get over it,

GL Leisha I am sorry you experienced such narrowmindedness.

I agree with SW if this is as explained in this article. Being gay had nothing to do with it. It could have happened to a man and woman making out when children or other passengers were around. Find a hotel ladies.

I puke when I see Mike and Molly kiss on TV. Not because their straight, because their FAT. See FAT people kiss is gross.

There are so many more things that SWA and the airlines should be worried about and focused on besides who is kissing who!. Thats whats wrong with the world today. Everybody is in everybody else business and wont mind their own business. I would rather see people kissing as opposed to fighting. So what they are gay! Love is Love! Who are we to judge? By the way, I miss the "L" word.

All the losers complain about SW Airlines because they cannot afford anything other than "cabin" rates.
