Lana Del Rey's 'Saturday Night Live' Performance Defended by Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe has come to the defense of Lana Del Rey for her widely panned Saturday Night Live performance.

The Harry Potter star, who hosted the episode and introduced Del Rey, told the press that he didn’t think her performance “warranted anywhere near that reaction.”

"It was unfortunate that people seemed to turn on her so quickly," he told press during the BAFTA nominations event.

"I also think people are making it about things other than the performance,” Radcliffe added. "If you read what people are saying about her online, it's all about her past and her family and stuff that's nobody else's business."

Del Rey, who gained her fame through YouTube, is one of only a few artists to ever appear on SNL before the U.S. release of their debut album (Del Rey’s Born to Die is due out Jan. 31 on Interscope). During her performance, she was visibly nervous, and, after she performed “Video Games” onstage, the singer was slammed on Twitter by many, including actress Juliette Lewis.

“Wow watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold [sic] in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes,” wrote Lewis, who is also a singer and has opened for the Foo Fighters and Chris Cornell. Lewis later deleted the post and changed her tune regarding her opinion of the singer.

STORY: Lana Del Rey's 'SNL' Performance Slammed by Juliette Lewis, Twitterverse

NBC’s Brian Williams wrote a note to the editors of Gawker –which the website published -- also skewering Del Rey’s performance: "Brooklyn hippster [sic] Lana Del Rey had one of the worst outings in SNL history last night — booked on the strength of her TWO SONG web EP, the least-experienced musical guest in the show's history, for starters."

The publicity, however bad, may have helped the sexy singer out. After being widely panned for her performance, it was announced that Del Rey had landed a spot on the bill for the annual SXSW Music Festival, scheduled for March 13 through 18 in Austin, Texas.

Might not have been the greatest ever but not the worst either and hardly deserving of the criticism.

I've watched SNL as long as it's been on and it is definitely not the worse. At least she didn't pass out on her piano, lip sync to the wrong song and clog her way off stage, sweat profusely, or tried to be cool and break a guitar and fail 3x, rip up a picture of the pope. She wasn't nearly as bad as Puff Daddys most recent performance...that was awful.

Didn't the Replacements show up and do the show so drunk that Loren Michaels banned them for life from ever playing on SNL again.

I realy don't know why all the criticism. I think she sang it the way she interpreted it. People just don't get it....I.E. Bryan Williams. I thought as a journalist youwere supposed to remain neutral and unbiased in your views. I am actualy dissapointed in his conduct. She was authentic. You can't attack that. Such is human nature.

If you watch her other performances on youtube none seem to be with the band she played with on SNL, and in fact the song Video Games is performed more often accompanied with an piano which helps to highlight her beautiful voice. I'm going to blame this on the person you decided to put her out in front of a band instead of her usual group of musicians.
I'm going to buy her album, I love her voice and that's all that matters to me, not whether or not Brian Williams thinks her performance was sub par

I've seen and heard a lot worse performances. I have to agree with
      Daniel Radcliffe.

I seriously doubt she is less experienced than 'The Blues Brothers' were.

I don't honestly think it was the worst on SNL.....but I won't say that it was the best. There have been other great performances, but Del Rey's wasn't exactly the best. I agree with Daniel to a point. No need to hate on someone because their performance wasn't great. Everyone has their down moments, and maybe this was one of hers... :/

Good for you harry potter, just as humble in real life as in the movie.

I saw her performance and thought it wasnt the best song for that moment but her performance was on the money. She has her own style and I think that bothers some of the cloned "entertainers". If she withstands all the #$%$ critics I think she will deserve an apololgy from them in good time.

I do think that people are getting upset about the performance but I am mostly upset by how no one knows her and all she had to was have her Father pay for it and that there are so many bands and artists working hard blood and sweat and they don't have a parent out there paying for them to be on SNL....That makes me very upset.

aside from looking slightly uncomfortable, I agree with Nayeli...hauntingly beautiful voice. Flaws and all. She's real.

I liked her performance. There were possibly some issues with vocal levels etc. but her voice is hauntingly pretty. I agree with Daniel Radcliffe.
