The Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode revealed that Alison is 100 percent alive, but as Marlene King told ETonline, "If Ali's alive, then who is buried in her place?" Clearly that question will be addressed in the winter premiere, which is titled Who's In The Box?
Now a new photo from the premiere has been released, featuring all four of our PLLs -- although, as Lucy Hale told me, "The cool thing about this season is that, because Ali is alive, there are now five of us working together."
Obviously her return begs more questions than it answers, with Hale adding, "Now that they know she’s alive, it's about grabbing onto her and not losing her again because they obviously know she disappeared for a reason -- now they need to know what that reason is. On to the next mystery!"
Said mystery will inevitably involve Aria's soulmate (Hale's words, not mine) Ezra, who was revealed in the fall finale to be -- or working for -- "A," much to many fans' chagrin. "Aria's kept in the dark for a while about Ezra. She seemingly thinks everything is fine between them. But one of the other girls finds out before her and ... well, that's all I can say about that. Period. End of quote," she laughed.
The official synopsis for the PLL premiere reads: The search for answers may lie buried deep within the dream world in the winter premiere. Armed with the knowledge that Alison is alive, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer have more questions now than ever before in an all-new episode. Trying to put the pieces together Hanna comes up with the idea that if they find out who is really buried in Ali's grave it may lead to much needed answers. But as the girls search, Emily has trouble dealing with how she feels about Alison being alive. Meanwhile, Caleb returns to Rosewood, and Ezra has clandestine meetings with Mona and Aria.
Pretty Little Liars premieres January 7 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.
