There were some crazy twists in the first season of "The Lying Game." Many of the most interesting twists happened in the relationships of the characters. At the end of Season 1, Emma (Alexandra Chando) found out that Ethan (Blair Redford) had kissed Sutton while he was on the run, breaking her heart. Although Ethan is desperate to get her back, he might have a rival for her affections. Thayer (Christian Alexander) formed a close bond with Emma, and it started to look as though there could be more than friendship between them. So, should Emma be with Ethan or Thayer?
Team Ethan
Ethan is the bad boy who isn't really bad, and he was the first person to realize that Emma was posing as Sutton. At the time, he was in a secret relationship with Sutton, but he soon discovered that she was never going to allow their relationship to go public. After spending so much time with Emma, he fell for her softer, kinder nature, and they made their relationship official by kissing at a school dance.
Ethan's devotion to Emma was completely unwavering no matter how many times Sutton tried to ruin it, so it was a huge surprise when he fell for her lies and kissed her. He slightly redeemed himself by admitting the truth to Emma, but he waited until they were about to sleep together for the first time. Not a great moment to confess to cheating!
Ethan obviously loves Emma, in spite of his mistake. Unfortunately, he was the only person Emma truly trusted, and she may never be able to forgive him.
Team Thayer
Thayer Rybak used to be in love with Sutton. They grew up together, and it seemed as though he always had a thing for her. In the way only Sutton can, she used him for her own ends. She took advantage of his feelings for her, and when he realized she didn't care, he abandoned her.
Even though he wasn't Sutton's biggest fan, he still wanted to help her and Emma find their mother, and he really went the extra mile for them. Like Ethan, he was drawn to Emma's warm personality. At first, it was almost like a brother/sister relationship, but by the end of the season there was a very visible spark between them.
Thayer is dependable and straight-laced without being dull. He genuinely cares for Emma, and the fact that he is so honest might mean that he is actually the wiser choice for Emma.
