One of the biggest mysteries left unsolved in "The Lying Game," is the murder of Derek Rogers (Ben Elliott). He was killed after a run-in with Ethan (Blair Redford), and his death sparked a crazy chain of events for the parents and kids at Arroyo High School. There are several suspects, but no concrete proof has been found yet. So, who did it? Here is a list of the suspects.
Ethan and Sutton (Alexandra Chando) were the last people we saw with Derek before he died. They had a fight about the night someone tried to kill Sutton, and Ethan threw a vicious punch at him before they were disturbed. Ethan and Sutton fled from the scene, but Ethan was picked up as the number one suspect. Although we know for sure Ethan didn't kill Derek right out, could his attack have contributed to his death? It's a possibility, but, he definitely wasn't the one who struck the final blow.
Alec Rybak (Adrian Pasdar)
Alec was the fans' prime suspect. Having Derek out of the way was beneficial to him because he had the teen running dangerous errands for him, and Alec feared he was about to confess everything. In the lead-up to the end of Season 1, Alec was being threatened by photos linking him to the crime scene, and in the finale, the crowbar that killed Derek was found in Alec's golf bag. He was arrested, right in the middle of his wedding to Rebecca (Charisma Carpenter). The problem is, it seems highly unlikely that someone as smart and calculated as Rybak would be stupid enough to conceal a murder weapon in his house. It's beginning to look very much like he was set up.
Rebecca was a strange one from the moment she arrived in town. It was obvious that she was up to something, but it was definitely a shock to realize that she had been working with Sutton to manipulate the lives of everyone around them. The most likely scenario is that it was actually Rebecca who murdered Derek, with the intention of framing Alec as payback for whatever he did to her when they were younger. Rebecca is the coldest person on the show, and her mean streak is even more vicious that Sutton's. If she isn't Derek's killer, it will be super surprising!
