UPDATE, THURSDAY, 8:30 AM:

Magic Mike XXL woke up this morning to a bedful of cash after collecting $9.315M on its opening Wednesday and earning an A- CinemaScore. That’s fantastic because audiences graded the first film a B in July 2012, and that title went on to post a $39.1M weekend and a final domestic B.O. of $113.7M.

Magic Mike XXL‘s domination exemplifies the upward trend of females’ stampede at the multiplex and their demand for edgier fare, read Fifty Shades Of Grey (again, we’ve seen this uptick since 2008’s Sex And The City). Last night, 96% of Magic Mike XXL‘s audience was comprised of females — that’s the biggest female share ever, outstripping Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (96%) and Sex and the City 2 (90%). Rentrak’s Post Trak is also showing a strong turnout for women at 82%, who awarded the film 4.5 out of 5 stars with a 69% definite recommend. A majority of those ladies attending at 34% came out because they’re huge Channing Tatum fans. Magic Mike XXL also drew an older female crowd with 55% over 25. On Monday, pre-sales at the top major chains -AMC, Regal and Cinemark — showed Magic Mike XXL outpacing Terminator Genisys three-fold, indicative of older women buying MMXXL tickets in advance.
