Man behind Te'o hoax tells Dr. Phil that he had to move on with his life [Video]

The Manti Te'o debacle has been a confusing and bizarre drama from the get-go. Now Dr. Phil is taking his turn at closing the book on this scandalous story. In an interview, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man admittedly behind the hoax that convinced Te'o that he had a longtime Internet girlfriend, opens up to the psychologist.

In this clip, Dr. Phil McGraw sits down with Tuiasosopo, who is looking to put this sordid mistake behind him. "Why did you end this relationship?" Dr. Phil asks -- the relationship being that of Te'o and Ronaiah, who was posing as girlfriend Lennay Kekua.

"I wanted to end it because after everything I had gone through, I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life and had … to start living and just let this go," Tuiasosopo said.

Tuiasosopo also admitted to Dr. Phil that he had fallen "deeply, romantically in love" with the college football star over all the communications he feigned as Lennay.

To watch the full interview, tune in to "Dr. Phil" on Thursday, Jan. 31 (check your local listings) on CBS.
