It's the news that millions of fans of the hit CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother" have been waiting for. That news, of course, is just who in the world Ted's future wife will be. This mysterious woman is the "mother" mentioned in the title, and Ted's (Josh Radnor) quest to find this woman is the premise behind the whole show.
Fans of "How I Met Your Mother" have now watched over 150 episodes where Future Ted teases us with hints and clues, along with a few misleading hints and clues that he later goes back to correct. We've had a few promising clues over the many episodes of the show, like that she has an umbrella that for awhile seemed to be stalking Ted, that she's not Robin, and that Ted meets her at Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) wedding -- whenever that is.
Recently, the show's executive producer, Carter Bays, has gone on record to say that Ted's quest will not be resolved until very close to the end of the show. He also said that there are 18 different lesser story lines that need to be addressed before the show airs its last episode.
Given the fact that the show has been renewed for the 2012-2013 season, it looks like fans of " How I Met Your Mother " are going to have plenty more waiting in store. Ted is, however, making some slow but steady progress in his quest to find his wife-to-be. The executive producer indicated that at least several episodes that will air during the rest of the current season will focus on Ted's desire to find a woman to settle down with and how he plans to find her.
For fans who were waiting on pins and needles to see how Barney's future wife is: given that Ted is meeting his wife at Barney's wedding but isn't meeting her until perhaps the end of next season (if not later), it looks like there will be no quick resolution to that question, either.
You can catch " How I Met Your Mother " on CBS on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
