The latest episode of "How I Met Your Mother" was a throwback to the old days. Single Barney made his return, and fans also got to see a lot of Marshall and Lily. There were no references to Barney and Robin, and that's a good thing. This show is always funnier when nothing serious is happening, so this episode was a nice change of pace. The drama will return in time, but this nanny-themed edition was all about the laughs. Here is a recap of the latest episode of "How I Met Your Mother."
Single Barney is backWith his engagement off, Barney is back on the market. He is determined to reintroduce himself in style, so he invents the concept of "Bangtoberfest." In addition to creating hats and shirts for the event, he also decides to use a new gimmick. While he struggles to find the right line to use, he comes up with the idea of interviewing nannies. He buys a line of toys and pretends to have his own son, all in the hopes of seducing the potential candidates. Barney's strategy works, but it backfires with the nannies all find out about his act. They end up attacking him on the street, leading Barney to feel frustrated at his new found single life.
The nanny searchNew parents Marshall and Lily are about to take a big step as parents. With Lily set to return to work, it's time for them to find a nanny. Their first choice, Mrs. Buckminster, is a dream come true. Unfortunately, her salary is way out of range, and they have to keep looking. After a series of strange interviews, they finally find a woman they like. She seems sweet, and it helps that she comes from Marshall's home town. However, Barney ends up sleeping with her as part of his "Bangtoberfest" venture, and that means that another nanny is lost.
Barney makes it up to them by paying the salary for Mrs. Buckminster, but it turns out that Lily is having a hard time letting go of baby Marvin. When she wakes up from a nap, she finds that the baby is missing. Just as the panic sets in, Lily's dad walks in with the baby. He spent the day taking care of him, and Lily is surprised to find out that he did the same for her when she was a baby. She ends up hiring her dad as the nanny, leaving Mrs. Buckminster to have a tryst with Barney at the end of the episode.
Ted and Robin competeFormer flames Ted and Robin get into a shouting match over whose relationship is more stable. Both of them try to constantly one-up each other by bragging about how perfect their romance is. Ted even RSVP's to a wedding in Jamaica, while Robin books a trip for Hawaii. However, their competition forces them to confront the problems they have with their respective partners. Ted points out that Robin hates that Nick is sensitive, while Robin points out that Victoria is a slob. They both toast to trying to make the relationships work, but Future Ted narrates that both of them will break up within the month.
