Things are getting a little crazy on "How I Met Your Mother." Or is it just Robin? In the episode, "The Stinson Missile Crisis," Robin took over Ted's usual narration duties to explain how she went so far off the deep end. Like Ted, she talked about her friends... and Nora. She explained to the shrink how Barney's rejection triggered a bimbo attack, an arrest and court ordered psychiatric evaluation. Some viewers may have thought Robin needed that all along.
Robin attacked a bimbo? Yes she did; and until the very end of the episode, viewers may have been misled into believing the bimbo attackee was Nora. Since she reconnected with Barney, Nora does bring out Robin's darker side. Like Victoria tried to tell Ted, that whole Barney/Robin/Ted/friends/ex-lovers thing doesn't work.
Robin's not okay
She's been muttering under her breath for some time now...something about people saying they're okay but they're not okay. Unfortunately no one was paying attention.... except Lily. She figured out the whole Barney thing when she picked up on Robin's high-pitched lying voice. But Lily and Marshall were all caught up in prenatal visits and pregnancy boobs. Ted was deep into a "Team Baby" obsession because he can't find "the one." And Barney was all caught up in Nora.
So Robin lost it over.... a guy wearing a duckie tie?
She never stopped loving Barney, even if he has to wear Marshall's duckie tie for a year. Her attraction to him is no big mystery. She and Barney are two of a kind. They smoke cigars together and drink Glen McKenna Scotch. They laugh at the same perverted jokes and commit childish pranks. (Remember the museum romp where Barney and Robin touched rare artifacts because the signs said not to?)
Robin could have had her second chance long ago. What was she waiting for? Now Barney's in love with Nora and Robin's still in love with him. As Barney's buddy, Robin is duty bound to watch his back. She might very well be held to "Bro Code" standards. Even if she isn't, as a friend, she must help the man she loves keep the woman he loves. That's Robin's twisted reality.
Barney's feeling obsessive... but not over Robin
If Barney never noticed Robin falling apart right in front of him, it's because he only has eyes for Nora. He camped out in a coffee shop waiting for her to come back to him. He sent daily gifts of balloons, candy and flowers. He came to Nora's office (also Robin's office) sang "When a Man Loves a Woman" and ended his song with a magic flower trick.
Barney terminated his BDS (Bimbo Delivery Systems) a network of schemes like Dr. Stinson's free Breast surgery consultation and other ploys guaranteed to deliver bimbos on demand. He cleaned up his act..... for Nora. Robin was helping him do it. Unfortunately one of Barney's leftover bimbos presented a perfect opportunity. During a moment of jealousy... and drunkenness Robin sent her to sabotage Barney's romantic date with Nora. It took a little force, but she stopped that bimbo dead in her tracks... so that's why Robin landed in jail.
Ted's feeling depressed
You might have noticed Ted's moods shifting to the dark side as well. After 6 seasons he's come close but never found "the one." In the first few episodes of season 7, he's not even tried. The gang was his date at Punchy's wedding. He took Robin to the Architect's Ball. He hooked up with Victoria, but only to wash her dishes to make up for past bad behavior. Now he's following Lily and Marshall around like a little lost dog. He's wearing a "Team Baby" tee.
Ted is so lost, he'll never find "the one" unless it's Robin... or Victoria. Of course if it's Robin, that would solve two problems.
