Mexico judge orders US producer to stand trial

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — A Mexican judge on Wednesday ordered a U.S. reality television producer to stand trial in the killing of his wife at a Cancun resort in 2010, and a defense lawyer said his client fainted when he heard the ruling.

Quintana Roo state prosecutor Ludwin Vivas Arjona said the judge ruled there is enough evidence to try former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman.

An attorney representing Beresford-Redman, Jaime Cancino, described his client as "distraught" and said he passed out when the judge announced his decision.

Cancino said he would appeal the judge's order for a trial.

"It's something very strange because there is no evidence in the case," the lawyer said in brief remarks to reporters outside the courtroom.

The producer has said he is innocent. If convicted, he could face between 12 and 30 years in prison.

The body of Monica Beresford-Redman was found in a sewer cistern at a swank resort during a family vacation. The couple had gone there with their young children in an attempt to save their marriage after she learned her husband was cheating on her.

The defendant was flown to Cancun last week escorted by nearly a dozen Mexican agents.

The U.S. Marshals Service turned the Emmy-nominated producer over to Mexican federal police after State Department officials signed a warrant clearing his extradition.

Beresford-Redman opted in December not to appeal a U.S. court ruling upholding his extradition.

Part of the evidence in the case includes statements from hotel guests who said they heard loud arguing and cries of distress coming from the couple's room on the night Monica Beresford-Redman went missing.

The producer's lawyers have said that the noises came from Beresford-Redman and his children playing loud games throughout the night and add that there isn't any forensic evidence that he killed his wife.

We apologize. An error has occurred. Please try again.

Josh Powell and Bruce Beresford-Redman and many others, always seem to have all the answers yet the spouse still vanishes. He passed out because he couldn't believe the judge would want to try him? Or did he pass out because he knows he is guilty and knows everyone knows it? Let him sweat it out!!! In this article it says the following.....Quintana Roo state prosecutor Ludwin Vivas Arjona said the judge ruled there is enough evidence to try former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman. Yet 2 paragraphs later his attorney said that there is no evidence...hmmmm!

probably p#$%$ed out because prison in Mexico is worst than being in a combat war zone, his chances would be better if he were on the front lines in Afghanistan. He's toast, even short term jail in Mex. is brutal. Watch that show locked up abroad, they ahd the drug dealer jailed in Mexico for like 12 years, he was stabbed 7 times - that's 7 different times, each time almost died, got beat up every single day for 2 years straight, it isn't like the candy #$%$ prisons here where they protect you, its a large yard, and every man for himself. Whitey 's gona get some #$%$ beatings and rapings for sure, I would be amazed if he lives thru it, this other guy, who was a pertty big bad #$%$ coke dealer, almost died many times, and he is free now, but still messed up. This guy gets convicted, he's looking at 20 years, good luck, he'll be dead like his wife in 4, and the kids will live without parents.

How wrong you are. When an American commits a crime in Mexico, he usually hightails it to the U.S. and gets away with murder. Case in point: William S. Burroughs, wealthy son of an elite couple and Harvard graduate, while living in Mexico placed a shot glass on his wife’s head and played William Tell. The bullet missed the glass but got her betwixt the eyes. Burroughs ran back to the States . He was tried in absentia and convicted of manslaughter, but naturally, he never served one single day. This new judge in Mexico is aware of American ways, so he wants to nail this guy and keep him there.

HIs attorney tried to blame OJ, but when reminded that OJ has an alibi (i.e. he's already in jail elsewhere) he went with the classic well then "there is no evidence". Wow, wish they would have taught me that defense in law school. Too funny. Many years behind bars wife killer!!

One dead body beaten and stuffed in the ground with a steel vault door, secretly leaves the country. They have no proof and no one in Congress or the Senate has ever done any insider trading. Right again.
I would give him 15 years to leard how to appreciate real Mexican food, he will come out of the closet there.

Aaaaaaah, haaaaa. "he fainted when he heard the ruling". What a coward. I hope he has a long miserable life in a Mexican jail after the jury finds him guilty of murdering his wife. Surely he thought he was home scott free. What a degenerate. Too funny, he fainted... lmao!!!

I am sure if the guy has enough money?? The charges will be dropped and the prosecutor and judge will be a "giant leap" closer to retirement.

Any chance they could order Holder to stand trial for crimes against the Mexican people/government?The man behind Fast and Furious at least deserves a little international recognition.
    • shtstk  •  3 months ago
I have no problem with Mexico making this man go to trial, we have no right to tell them how to proceed with their laws, but, they have no right to cry and accuse us of racism if we arrest and send to trial and/or deport Mexicans who are here illegally or commit crimes in this country. People from other countries that come here need to respect our laws and we in turn need to respect their laws when in their country. Don't come here and try to circumvent our laws to suit your situation.

The US should demand a extradition agreement with Mexico. Give Mexicans no place to hide when they commit crimes and flee to Mexico.

Sam. Not to rain on your parade but the U.S. and Mexico do have an extradition treaty and that is why Mexico extradites so many of its narco citizens to the U.S. Mexico does not have the death penalty and will not extradite anyone to the U.S. if the death penalty will be used. Harvey, she deserved being murdered? Do you have someone in mind? What is hard is to determine how the trial will go. He may get off light with a bribe or the Mexican government may determine to come down hard to placate the U.S. tourists.
