This week on "The Mob Doctor," Grace meditates on the need to lie to her family, and the reasons why families lie to each other in the appropriately titled episode "Family Secrets."
Grace starts off by recounting the first lie someone in her family told her. On her sixth birthday, Grace's mom told her that her dad couldn't come to her party because he was working, when in reality he was just out drinking. Grace continues the family tradition of lying by telling her brother that she doesn't know what happened to Moretti.
Elsewhere, Constantine and Franco are trying to make a deal with one of Moretti's old associates, Dante Amato. But negotiations on the multi-million dollar video poker deal are cut short when Dante falls seriously ill. Grace comes to consult but can't make much of a diagnosis without getting Dante into a hospital, where she can do some tests.
But Dante is wanted by the cops for murder, so bringing him into the city is tricky. She takes a urine sample; analysis at the hospital shows that he is experiencing kidney failure. Grace sneaks Dante into the hospital, using the recent death of an elderly patient to mask Dante's identity. However, Grace's brother sees his sister and Franco helping Dante into the hospital.
Elsewhere in the hospital, a bride has been admitted. She was bleeding from her eyes when she came in, after having a massive panic attack that made her run from the altar. The cause of her panic attacks in a growth on her kidney, and pressure from the corset on her wedding gown caused the growth to release high amounts of adrenaline. The bride is sent into surgery to have the growth dealt with.
While under the influence of Ativan, Dante tells Grace that he knew her father. The two of them used to "play the ponies" together. Grace asks about her father's death, and Dante says that if she wants answers, she should ask Constantine. But when Grace confronts Constantine, he denies killing her father, despite Grace's recollection of seeing Constantine's car driving away the day her dad died.
Back in Dante's remote home, Grace is called in when Dante gets even more sick. Grace is finally able to determine the cause: He's been poisoned with cyanide. The culprit: Dante's wife, who was angered by living with Dante in seclusion and not being kept in the style to which she had become accustomed. She shows up dead later in the episode, likely poisoned with cyanide.
After she saves Dante's life, Nate confronts Grace about her relationship with the mob. As for the mob, Constantine fails to make a deal with the Amato brothers and intercepts the truck that's carrying the video poker machines. The episode ends with Nate approaching Constantine and asking for a job, something that's sure to anger Grace when she finds out.
