Morgan Fairchild has made a career playing not so nice. She got her first gig as Faye Dunaway's stand-in on "Bonnie and Clyde," and bad girls certainly don't get much worse than that. Her big break came playing the beautiful but sinister Jennifer Pace on "Search for Tomorrow." But perhaps her latest role, Miss Margot in the Syfy channel fright flick "American Horror House," is the most wicked off all.
Morgan Fairchild amps up the evil with supernatural powersAs Fairchild explained during a recent conference call interview, "This one was a little different in that she's actually supernatural. So that was fun -- sort of unlimited power."
But special abilities aside, playing a housemother at a haunted sorority didn't feel all that foreign to Fairchild. The self-proclaimed Syfy channel devotee jumped at taking on the role, which she perceived as fun and not too gruesome.
Fairchild didn't want to tip her character's true nature too earlyFairchild admitted that she had to find the balance between letting her small screen alter ego's darker side show and building up to the big reveal. "For Miss Margot, the thing was I didn't want to tip it too early that she is actually a bad guy, because at first, she seems sort of 'supportive housemother' and the normal everyday thing that a kid would encounter at college. I didn't want to tip it too soon. So that was a bit of a challenge... just trying to find ways to play things that later people could go back and say, 'Oh yes, I see that,' but at the moment they don't necessarily catch on right away."
And there's more to the mystery of who's killing the ill-fated coeds in Fairchild's character's care. Of Miss Margot's past, she teased, "She does have a history with the house. And figuring out what her history with the house is, is a big part of the story. Trying to understand what's going on as the girls are confronted with different odd happenings in the house -- as to why they're happening and what's really going on there."
To find out what lurks in the shadows and to see the best of devious diva Morgan Fairchild, tune in to " American Horror House " when it premieres on Saturday, 10/13 at 9 PM on Syfy.
