Motherhood is probably the most thankless job there is. When things don't work out, not only might an adult kid blame his/her mom, but chances are everyone else will, too. Just ask a therapist.
Some moms, however, are pretty embarrassing, and a subset of these moms take their shows on the road, showcasing that embarrassment for all the world to see.
Reality TV has created a slew of these cringe-worthy moms. There was the brassy Brit and entrepreneurial mogul Sharon Osbourne who smartly parlayed the embarrassment factor into personal branding. Then there was Audrina Patridge's drunken mom and VH1 personality, Lynn Patridge, who has all but drifted into obscurity. Certain show franchises like "The Real Housewives" and "Teen Moms" bank on mothers being "messy."
Let's take a look at the most embarrassing reality mothers of 2012.
Dina once starred on an ill-fated reality series titled "Living Lohan" with her model daughter, Ali. Ali is the sister of Dina's most famous child, Lindsay.
Linds has had a heck of a year, which included calling her dad for help while accusing her mother of being on cocaine. Lindsay's dad, Michael Lohan, starred on "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew." When the dad sold the drug-filled tale to the tabloids, the "Liz and Dick" star recanted. Mama Dina's most embarrassing moment of the year was her memorable, loopy, fist-bumping appearance on "Dr. Phil," where she seemed to be under the influence of something strong.
Kris is a fan fave when it comes to celeb moms that people love to hate. The reason is that Bruce's wife is the momager to the reality starlets people love most to hate, those wacky Kardashians. Whether its accidentally tweeting wardrobe malfunction photos or trying to be seen as one of the girls, KJ is pretty embarrassing.
In contrast, Jenner is pretty badass when it comes to being the manager for her "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" family. When Khloe's "The X Factor" deal almost fell to pieces, Kris was savvy enough to make it happen. Her reality TV veneer masks one of the most powerful players in Hollywood.
Courtney Stodden's mom
Courtney Stodden became world-famous as a 16-year-old "child bride" to 51-year-old "Lost" actor Doug Hutchison. The marriage was brokered, er, sanctioned by Courtney's mother, Krista Stodden. Krista has often been criticized for co-signing on her daughter's persona as a sexed up Barbie doll.
On the show, Krista came across as a little too enamored with Doug. Krista told the show's therapist, Dr. Jenn Berman, "He's got a lot of qualities, I'm not gonna lie to you. Any woman would love the qualities that man has. He is a fabulous man." Now, Krista may be getting her own reality show. Of course, she is!
