Most ridiculous moments in Season 5 of 'True Blood'

The fifth season of "True Blood" had its share of great moments, some of which were truly bone-chilling. After all, who will ever be able to forget the moment when Bill dissolved into a pool of blood only to be reborn as a male version of Lilith? However, for all of that, the fifth season had its share of absolutely ridiculous moments, including the following.

    The fairy birth

Certainly, "True Blood" has never taken itself too seriously, but it seems like they might have stepped over a line by pandering so much to the absurdity of the fairy storyline. Admittedly, it would be very difficult to make a story about fairies not ridiculous, but it seems that the writers could have taken a little more effort in creating a story that was not so laughable (and not in a good way). Fortunately, the fairy birth scene of the last episode was brief, but it does raise the unfortunate specter of continued Andy-centric storylines, which would definitely not be a good thing.

    Rosalyn's death

For some unknown reason the series also saw fit to make Rosalyn, one of the more enjoyable new vampire cast, the butt of a terrible death joke in the final episode of the season. While having Sam return to human form inside of her was clever, it was also rather ridiculous. In addition to removing one of the more interesting characters of the series, it also threatened to make "True Blood" into a farce and, more importantly, a farce that it probably did not (entirely) intend to be.

    The Ifrit storyline

OK, so the ifrit storyline did end up having a pretty interesting ending, but up until then it was really nothing more than a distraction from the action going in the Authority (which was the center of attention throughout most of the season). What's worse, it also focused on Terry and Arlene, two characters who, as I have noted elsewhere, are really not strong enough to carry their own storylines. I suppose we should just be grateful that this foray into Orientalism was brief.

So, although the fifth season was enjoyable in many ways, we should also not be blind to its faults. Hopefully, the sixth season will be able to avoid some of the pitfalls of the fifth and give us yet another season that we can enjoy with unalloyed pleasure.
