MTV Casts New Lauren Iungerich Pilot

MTV has assembled the cast of Hot Mess, a new pilot from Awkward creator/executive producer Lauren Iungerich. Annabelle Stephenson, Matthew Atkinson, Mathew Botuchis and Shoshana Bush are set for the pilot, which  Iungerich wrote and will direct. Hot Mess centers on Amanda Marshall (Stephenson), who is caught between her current and former boyfriend, and her close circle of friends from college. Atkinson plays Nick, a member of Amanda’s crew, with Botuchis as his partner in crime Todd. Bush is Vivi, Amanda’s closest girlfriend. Iungerich executive produces with Robyn Meisinger and Kim Fleary.

MTV quietly greenlit Hot Mess in September, well before this week’s executive shakeup at the network, with Susanne Daniels replacing head of programming David Janollari and co-head of scripted Clay Spencer exiting. Hot Mess has been shepherded by MTV’s other co-head of scripted Justin Levy, who is staying put and who also championed Iungerich’s breakout Awkward, which just received a People’s Choice Awards nomination for favorite cable comedy.
