'NCIS: LA': Hetty Begins Season 3 Hanging Out with the Comescu Crime Family

Last season " NCIS LA " fans got a sneak peak at the Comescu crime family. Last night's Season 3 premier episode, "Lange, H.," filled in a few of the blanks. Hetty went to Prague in the hopes of saving G. Callen. She alone knew why he needed to be saved. Now the pieces are coming together for everyone else. As the episode ended, Hetty may... or may not have been shot. They will reveal that little mystery next week. In the meantime, here are a few things viewers did learn from the Season 3 Premier episode.

The "NCIS:LA" team were still in Prague

Hetty and the team ended last season making a lot of noise in Prague.... and leaving a few bodies behind. They began Season 3 still on the job. Only Hetty..... and perhaps Lauren... really knew why they were in Romania in first place. After killing off a few thugs, Hetty paid a surprise visit to the Comescus, a crime family with roots all the way back to World War II. Viewers who thought Hetty might have bitten off more than she could chew should have been pleased to see her alive and well and chit-chatting with Alexa, the family head. That wheel shaped tattoo allowed her access. It meant Hetty was familia.... although it was probably a fake.

    Alexa and Hetty... famila?

The Comescu men left the table and Alexa and Hetty became entangled in a Q & A session. Alexa wanted one answer from Hetty: "Why are you here?" Hetty offered a few responses, including her life story, which may or may not have been a lie: She was Roma (Gypsy), born in a Refugee camp after the war. Nazis killed her parents in a death camp. She lived two years in the refugee camp raised by a family named Prablenka.

    Okay, so Hetty lied....

Alexa didn't believe a word. That's mostly because she already knew the truth. "You killed two of our people.." she told Hetty. That was a fact she couldn't deny. Alexa also had pictures of Callen, Sam, Kensi and Deeks taken at Prague airport. "These killed five more." One of the murdered thugs was Alexa's nephew. "You lie." she told Hetty.

    Callen on the Black Sea

Season 3 took viewers back to Callen on his knees at the beach on the Black Sea. He could barely function for the flashbacks to his childhood. He remembered an ice cream cart, the Black Sea and a thug shooting his mother in the head at point blank range. He'd had those flashbacks before, but always thought it was the Atlantic Ocean. He knew the area; and when Sam asked Callen how he knew this place. He answered, "I was born here."

    Meanwhile back in LA

Those two smart "NCIS:LA" techies, Eric and Nell, couldn't resist trying to solve the Hetty mystery. Director Vance was hanging around, so it wasn't easy. Still they managed to find Hetty's hidden Comescu file and used Vance's super secret, high level password to access it. (Ooops... Nell swore she'd forget that) They found photos of the Comescu crime family, including pictures which when un-blurred appeared to be Lauren Hunter, their new leader. She was in Prague as well.

With Vance's help they tracked down Lauren's phone records. She'd been in close contact with the C family for some time. That could have meant many things. She could have been a traitor, a double agent or simply a closet member of a Romanian crime family? Hmmmm.

"She died on the beach while her son played."

Despite being caught in a lie, Hetty kept up a nervy push for answers. She told Alexa, "If you tell me how this all started, I'll tell you why I came." Alexa chopped carrots and spoke about her grandfather during World War II. As Roma they could have been taken by the Nazis. He did whatever he could to keep his family alive during the War. He was favored for his efforts, but that changed when government power shifted in a coup.

An American OSS (forerunner to the CIA) agent ... Callen's grandfather... hunted down Alexa's grandfather and his two brothers and killed them. By the time Alexa's father tracked him down to return the favor, he had married a Roma girl. The senior Comescu killed Callen's grandfather, but his wife and daughter (Callen's mother) escaped to America. Alexa's father had vowed to end their bloodline; and when Callen's mother returned to Prague with two children, her father killed her while her son played on the beach.

True to her word, Hetty gave Alexa the answer to "Why did you come?" Hetty's answer, "To make amends." She tried to convince the Comescus that Callen was dead because she couldn't save his mother. Alexa continued "making soup" The women talked about fruit preserves, relating it to the feud, family tradition and preservation. When Hetty heard shooting, she said, "They're coming." Alexa's response, "Let them come."

    To be continued...

The team were confused but went on alert after seeing new boss lady, Lauren, up close and personal with the Comescu cousins. With so many flashbacks clogging up his memory, Callen could barely function in the present. Still when the Comescus came after them, he and the team managed to take down a few of them. As the season opener came to a close they left a few questions dangling in the wind.

Did Hetty get shot? Probably. She had blood on her hands and Alexa had a gun. It's a good bet she shot Hetty. Was Lauren a Traitor? No, she had been pretending to be a Comescu cousin for a while and they accepted her. In fact, she killed Alexa before the end of the episode. Will Hetty return to "NCIS:LA"? In the previews from next week, Lauren was still in charge, but Hetty made an appearance via live video. She'll be back, but it looks like she's in a new role.
