The "NCIS: Los Angeles" team are masters of deception. Undercover work can be serious stuff, but sometimes not so much. Each week they spice up their deadly dilemmas with a laugh or two to keep things fun. They pair up and take on quirky personalities. They sometimes go deep under cover, taking on deadly roles that endanger their lives. But in the episode "Lone Wolf," their undercover ops were quick-in quick-out disguises that kept the laughter going strong.
Hetty played the role of old friend
Vasser, Hetty's old NSA operative buddy, was all mixed up in an " NCIS: Los Angeles " case. His professional ties to Stephanie, the murder victim, were no coincidence; and Sam and Callen needed answers. Vasser had been a "lone wolf" when he and Hetty worked together back in the '80s. She knew him well. "You won't get through the door," she told Sam and Callen. "I will," she said, "and I'll remember to leave it unlocked for you." That's exactly what she did. She paid her old friend a visit and kept him wrapped up in conversation while Sam made his move.
Sam pulled out a few "cool tricks"
As promised, Hetty kept her old buddy busy talking old times and Sam sneaked in right behind her. It wasn't an easy task. Vasser's little boy knew Sam was a stranger and attacked him with a ball. Sam handled the situation by slipping into the undercover role of repairman. He distracted the little lad with cool magic tricks. He downloaded the information he needed and made a new little friend in the process.
Deeks went British
Kensi complained that Deeks got all the exciting undercover disguises while she played the straight-laced roles. She didn't realize it was all about who spoke up first. Deeks simply took the lead and she had to follow. That trend continued when they talked their way into an exclusive country club. Deeks set up an undercover lie about a British "soccer football player" who got left at the altar. The lie got them in. The rest was up to Kensi.
Kensi became a topless model
Kensi wanted exciting, so Deeks introduced her as Inez, a world famous topless model from Brazil. It wasn't exactly the undercover role she wanted, still she slipped into the role with ease. Kensi could be a flirty thing when she needed to be. She batted her eyes and donned a come hither look. She eased onto the bar stool next to her mark and wondered aloud why the pool required bathing suits. She became sexy enough to keep the man distracted while Deeks accessed his computer and downloaded data to a flash drive.
But did they get their man?
The "NCIS: Los Angeles" team may have themselves a bit of undercover fun, but they always get their man. Unfortunately this time that meant getting Hetty's old friend, Vasser. He'd been faking philanthropy while doing whatever it took to get his share of big bucks -- that included killing poor Stephanie. Because Vasser was an old friend, Hetty gave him "five minutes" to set things right before the team arrived. The lone wolf did that with one shot.
