Just a few days ago, "NCIS" star Michael Weatherly sent out a tantalizing Tweet to fans. "So crazy busy making episode 200 of #NCIS today... All I can say is Mike Franks is BACK!" We were all there for the last few episodes of last season. Mike Franks is definitely dead. So how is "NCIS" bringing him back? While Weatherly gave us all something to think about, he wouldn't provide any more details. Let's see exactly how the show might bring back Agent Gibbs' mentor.
Flashbacks
The most likely scenario would be a flashback episode. Could it be we may get another glimpse into the past of Gibbs? The few times we have had the chance to see Gibbs as a probie were fun to say the least. Maybe we could also get to know Franks just a little better. If it were to be a flashback, it would most likely be because of an old case or a current one. Either way, it would tie back to Mike Franks. It could possibly be something he was involved with before his too early demise. Possibly something involving his wife and child. The flashbacks could be as simple as Gibbs remembering something Franks said in the past. Maybe Gibbs needs a reminder of how good he truly is at his job. A reminder to trust his instincts. Perhaps other members of the team will be remembering him as well.
Speaking of Ghosts
When Kate was killed, she appeared in the next season as a ghost of sorts. Everyone sees her differently, but it was enough to let them say their goodbyes and start to move on. No one has really spoken of Mike Franks' death. Short of the funeral, very little has even been mentioned. Gibbs did build the daughter a bike for Christmas, but no one has truly grieved. An episode where Franks appears to give advice and counsel to the team would be the perfect way to celebrate the 200th episode. In a way, he was the beginning of the "NCIS" team; he trained Gibbs. Gibbs trained Tony. Tony gave Tim a hard time and they all helped Ziva. Without Franks, there may never have been the team we know today.
Still Alive
While it is highly unlikely Franks is still alive, it wouldn't be the first time a show has thrown fans a curve ball. It would be wonderful to have Franks back, but most wouldn't believe a story line that shows him still alive.
Regardless of the method, let's all celebrate and wait anxiously for the return of Mike Franks.
