Neil Patrick Harris is working on an unconventional memoir, covering his childhood, career and personal life, Random House-based publisher Crown Archetype announced on Tuesday.
The publisher described the book as "a work of imaginative nonfiction that delivers an interactive, nonlinear reading experience that breaks the boundaries of conventional memoir."
"I'm excited to be writing a book of the observations and stories of my life," said Harris. The Emmy winner went on to joke, "I read with great fondness Tina Fey's Bossypants, so my plan is just to reprint those exact stories but change the names to people that I knew. What editor would take issue with that?"
In 2005, Harris, an accomplished amateur magician and former child actor, took on the iconic role of Barney Stimson on How I Met Your Mother. The following year he confirmed his homosexuality, giving the following statement: "I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
In 2010, Harris and his partner David Burtka became parents of twins via a surrogate mother.
Harris' HIMYM co-star Josh Radnor is also expected to release a memoir later this year, detailing his childhood and experiences with drugs. Harris' untitled work is due out in spring 2014.
