NHL Cancels Season Through Dec. 30 Over Labor Dispute

The NHL has canceled another substantial chunk of the 2012-13 season, as a labor dispute between National Hockey League and the NHL Players' Association drags on.

The hockey league has now canceled its regular-season schedule through Dec. 30, due to the players' and the league's inability to reach a collective bargaining agreement. Also read: NHL Cancels More Games, All-Star Weekend Due to Lockout The new round of cancelations brings the number of canceled games this season up to 526 regular-season games, or 42.8 percent of the scheduled season, which was due to begin Oct. 11. Last month, the NHL canceled its regular schedule through Dec. 14, along with the 2013 NHL All-Star Weekend, which was scheduled for Jan. 26-27 in Columbus, Ohio.   "The reality of losing more regular-season games as well as the 2013 NHL All-Star Weekend in Columbus is extremely disappointing," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said at the time of the cancelations last month. "We feel badly for NHL fans and particularly those in Columbus, and we intend to work closely with the [Columbus] Blue Jackets organization to return the NHL All-Star events to Columbus and their fans as quickly as possible."
