"The New Normal" returned with a fully loaded episode. Nana and Rocky team up to teach Shania how to defend herself, and Matt Bomer guest stars as Bryan's ex, Monty. David and Bryan make big plans for Goldie, but she is busy discovering a new career.
Three's company
An interview with Ladies' Home Journal leads Bryan and David to consider their long-term family plans. They agree to have three children and meet with Gary at Expanding Families to discuss their timeline. When Gary breaks down and cries because he wants a relationship and family of his own, the guys decide to set him up with Monty.
Another fabulous flashback shows Monty and Bryan together. They split up because carefree Monty liked to spend his time partying and working out, but Bryan wanted to settle down and start a family. Now Monty is eager to start a family, but he needs a partner.
Bryan and David invite Monty and Gary to their home for dinner. Baby-hungry Monty is too busy touching Goldie's baby bump to notice Gary. Monty ditches the guys and follows Goldie to her makeshift sewing room.
Monty is so excited about starting a family that he decides to become a single parent. He wants to use Goldie as a surrogate, but David and Bryan already have plans for her uterus. As they argue about her, Bryan and David realize they are all treating her like an incubator for hire.
Bryan and David try to charm Goldie with her favorite foods -- Ikea meatballs, fried calamari, and Costco hot dogs -- as they reveal their plans to have two more children over the next few years. Goldie turns them down; she plans to pursue a career.
Shania learns to read
When a group of mean girls taunt Shania, she turns to Rocky and Nana for advice. Nana encourages her to wear a red power suit, change her hairdo, and demand respect. Rocky teaches her how to use insults, neck action, and finger snaps to cut down her enemies. After Shania uses Rocky's tips to scare the mean girls, she returns to her normal personality, saying they should support and empower each other. The girls bond and become friends.
Happy endings
Gary and Monty run into each other on the beach and start a relationship. They use Gary's awkward niece as a practice daughter.
Goldie debuts her apparel line at the farmers market. The whole gang helps her, and Bryan realizes he already has the big family he wanted.
