Oprah Winfrey surprised many fans by interviewing the Kardashian family for OWN's "Next Chapter," and the queen of talk took a moment to explain why she chose to go behind the scenes with the reality TV brood.

"Ok my friends I had the longest interviewing session I can ever recall, talking to ALLLLLLLL the Kardashians," Oprah said in a post published on her Facebook page on Wednesday. "I had never met them, nor seen the show. I did a full on Kardashian Kram in preparation, watching major shows from every season.

"I genuinely wanted to know why they have become a cultural phenomenon? Why do so many people love to watch their every move and why do so many others love to hate them," the post continued.

The sit-down yielded plenty of intriguing material, Oprah revealed, including shocking revelations from Kim about her ill-fated marriage to basketball star Kris Humphries.
