Billy (William John Miller II) Miller stars as Billy Abbott on "The Young and the Restless." Born in 1979, he is one of the younger faces on the series. Miller's education at University of Texas -Austin aimed him towards writing, directing and producing TV shows and screenplays. The actor in his thesis film left him high and dry, so he stepped in to take the part and discovered an entirely new career choice. Upon graduation, Miller headed off towards Hollywood to further his career.
Several commercial spots included one for "The Sims." In 2007, Miller signed for the role of Richie Novak, a non-so-nice double-dealing man in "All My Children", a character written out a year later. A push to get him a job on "The Young and the Restless" was successful. Much like Maura West's recent experience, one character ceased to exist as an established "Y & R" character got a new look.
Miller's assumption as Billy Abbot in "Y & R" has worked out well. With his college background in writing and producing, he understands the fans' aversion to change of a favorite character. Uncertain of his reception in his new role, Miller discovered his success when he was nominated for and won a Daytime Emmy for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in A Drama Series" June 27, 2010.
The fans accepted Miller wholeheartedly because he changed Abbott's character to fit more into the style the fans want. This year, anxiety rocked daytime television as fans saw their favorite soap operas and shows canceled. Miller recently signed a new contract, remaining with "Young and the Restless."
Owner and editor of "Restless Style" magazine, many of Genoa City's rich and famous wish Billy would concentrate on something else. With an illustrious career in Jabot Cosmetics, William Foster Abbot was a "Glo By Jabot Kid" for the company, worked part-time in the Jabot Cosmetics mailroom, and is former Director of Marketing, CEO and Co-CEO of Jabot. Abbott is a humanitarian that worked on reconstruction in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He also spent a summer after high school graduation as a volunteer building housing for the poor in Louisiana.
Billy married Victoria Newman September 9, 2010 and was instrumental in the adoption of Lucy Abbot earlier this year. A long fight in family court resulted in overturning the adoption. Baby Lucy is with her birth mother, Daisy, and Phyllis. Billy left Victoria and is on a long drunk, but with his new contract signed, we can expect to see things change for the better quickly.
