Contrary to previous reports, Lanza's mother, Nancy Lanza, was not a teacher at Sandy Hook. As of now, police have not found any connection between the shooter and the school.
Police have not revealed any explanation for Lanza's actions, but Lt. Paul Vance told theAssociated Press that investigators had found "very good evidence ... that our investigators will be able to use in painting the complete picture, the how and, more importantly, the why."
According to CNN, Lanza had been involved in an altercation at Sandy Hook on Thursday, the day before the shooting. Lanza reportedly got into a disagreement with four adults, three of whom were killed the next day, about Lanza attempting to enter the school.
On the Tuesday before the shooting, Lanza had unsuccessfully attempted to purchase a gun in the nearby town of Danbury. Then three days later on Friday morning, Lanza killed his mother at their home before driving her car over to the elementary school. He took with him three guns, a semiautomatic .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle and two pistols, all of which belonged to his mother.
He then forced his way inside and opened fire in two classrooms. Police received the first report of the shooting around 9:30 a.m. The assault lasted approximately 20 minutes before Lanza took his own life. All schools in the area were placed on lockdown after the shooting, as parents rushed to the school for news about their children.
The attack resulted in the death of 28 victims, which includes 20 children and six adults who were killed at the school, the shooter, and his mother.

One of the victims included the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School, who died lunging at Lanza in an attempt to stop him.
On Saturday, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. H. Wayne Carver said all the victims at Sandy Hook were killed in close range with multiple shots. The six adult victims were all women, while 12 of the younger victims were girls and 8 were boys. The children were all 6 or 7 years old.
Reports initially identified Lanza's 24-year-old brother Ryan as the shooter, but police do not suspect Ryan of any involvement, though he was taken in for questioning on Friday.
