The Vampire Diaries beat not one, but two Big Four networks Thursday.
The CW series rose 30 percent to 2.9 million viewers and a 1.3 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, edging out ABC's Zero Hour (5.3 million, 1.1) and NBC's rating average of 1.2 between Community (3.1 million, 1.1) and Parks and Recreation (3 million, 1.3). Parks and Rec's second episode did slightly better with 2.9 million viewers and a 1.4.

Fox won the night, thanks to a two-hour American Idol (13.5 million, 3.9), which was up two-tenths from last week's one-hour show.
CBS was second, led by The Big Bang Theory (17.3 million, 5.4), down a tenth from last week. ABC was third, topped by Grey's Anatomy (8.5 million, 3.0), which rose 7 percent.
